It’s 2AM and your phone has just buzzed you awake, filling the room in white-blue LED light. You have a message. It’s a photo. No words, no explanation. Just a photo. Tell us all about it. And what happens next.
It is from someone I do NOT know. For a few minutes, I couldn’t figure out who or what sent this message. Should I dare view this photo? And to what end must I fulfill my curiosity so early in the morning. It’s 2am and why are they sending it? I will never know until my fears of the unknown “goes away”. I don’t feel threatened. No. But the anxiety leaves my heart pounding so strong in my chest that I could feel the blood pressure throbbing in my head – a strong, steady rhythm as each breath is taken.
Maybe it’s an invitation, a clue, or a puzzle. I could laugh out loud to myself and why I should feel so cold and clammy just thinking about my next move. Sure, I should just view the photo and really end this shivering feeling that has come over me. Maybe something is wrong with this message. Maybe it was sent to me by mistake. Somehow I have a feeling it would be okay. What’s a little harmless peek going to do to me?
Alas, my imagination was running wild. Was it that strange man that had my home address and threatened to harm a fictional husband online, when in fact I am a single/childless woman without a job! This is maddening! I should just think of a happy place and imagine simple images of a mineral. That’s right. It’s a photo of a quartz crystal wand wrapped in coiled electrical wiring. Or maybe it’s a photo of a vegetable – a tomato, all ripe, plump and juicy.
Then again, I could see perhaps several photos of little girls dressed in pretty dresses. One time there were lots white letter-sized paper of dolled up girls a-strewn on MY long stretch of road. Maw and I gathered all these up, stuffed them in a plastic bag and hurried to the SJPD where a tall/black cop who was sucking on a red-colored candy pop said behind the bullet-proof glass: “So? What do you want us to do with it?” But he opened a side door to his right and I handed it to him.
But this time I am hoping for only one photo. And it was — it was a photo of a brick wall. That was curious and very odd. It doesn’t mean anything. It was black and white. Somehow, I think that the layers of bricks mean something. But I don’t know. Maybe someone in the brick laying business has something important for me. Nay! I think came from a bunch of Masons. After all, who but a bunch of naves would have the ability to build such grand monuments dating far back as ancient Egypt?
I should reply because it could be a trap. Yeah. That’s right. I won’t reply. Surely, they’ve got my back for I could see as far right and as far left that massive structure behind me. It was a very solid construction and the coloring was light, like grayish. Maybe it was cement. I don’t know. But beyond this structure were lots of clouds. But within those white clouds were a series of brown-colored speckled distortions. I stared straight ahead at this cloud bank and couldn’t figure it out.
But when I closed my eyes to meditate on what I saw, I awoke from a dream. This was all a dream! I imagined waking up to a message at 2AM! It was only a dream! What happened next was impossible. I wet the bed and had to get up to clean up. And if that didn’t make matters worse, I saw the smartphone blinking! I picked up the phone and saw the icon indicating a message indeed came through! I let out a silent scream so loud that I passed out. What happened next is another story…
