Can a movie be better than the book it was based on?

A movie can be better than the book it was based on. For example, “The Last Unicorn” was an animated film based on a book. Coming up with my own images of what the characters might look like is difficult. But with the film, I actually enjoyed it enough to buy the book. Well, I’ve yet to get a nice copy somewhere. Plus, I love theme song by “America”. It made watching the show more enjoyable with both sound and visual. Reading the book just makes me think out loud to myself.
