To the Boss:
It’s none of my business but as an elder sister, you’d better listen to the sentiments of your Mom about your “life/style” preferences. Remember you are FILIPINO, and NOT one of “them”! You may be dark but not fugly, at least NOT in my books.
Don’t make the mistake that I’ve observed in my own generation. If y’all can’t get along now, count on it FOREVER. Can you live with that? Would you want your Mom turn in her grave disappointed? Why are you being heartless?
As far as I’m aware first hand from other people, the one you “like” usually doesn’t iron or do none of those cleaning chores. I could see that already in how your “damit/kami-seta”. Am I correct in my observation or is s/he an exception/different?
As per my/your peer/age group, they all tell me the same thing: It’s not the same. Trust me on this. I’ve dated many of those “race” (the one you “like”) and the tension was always there. I couldn’t rest in peace/handle the disappoinments. So I remained single/childless because I couldn’t find someone to match both my traditional values as a Filipino/Catholic and modern preferences in fruity/rockers.
My own younger brother disobeyed his parents/broke a Commandment. And to this day, tension and mutual disregard on both sides continue to ruin his married/childless lifestyle. He thinks he is one of “them” but they could never understand each other. The siblings don’t talk to each other.
My first/paternal/cousin Chill has a first/maternal/cousin who married someone “lazy”. They made a cute little girl together but later divorced because she wouldn’t work or help around the house. His sister had a boy, divorced, and moved/hid in the Philippines to avoid child custody issues.
An Ilocano/hot-shot co-worker who works near your Mom’s area, once email/texted me long ago: “It’s better to marry a Filipino because we understand each other better.” Both were divorced from their Filipino spouses but met online and are happily married to each other. She has two young adult daughters. He has one young son.
So you see, the fine chicks/good ones are still out there. Y’all just have to play it by ear and/or just listen to your Mom! You are retaliating against Filipinos and their get together/parties/gossips. I know this is true because that was the same reasons I dated those “races” – to escape/get away from my own kinds.
I don’t blame your Mom for doing her own things without your Dad. It happens to ALL families. I hope that our generation is not entirely lost to staying within their own “race”/loosing their cultural identity. That’s why your Mom said aloud during choir rehearsal: “He doesn’t want to get married.” And since then, has profound sadness. 🙁
