Of course, I had expected fireworks on my last day at the “temp job from hell”. I’ve learned that people would rather inflict pain on subordinates just to keep their jobs. I see that these same people are feeding their family, nay, their children the misery they give to other people. That will be a karmic debt, unfortunately for the superiors because their bosses are coming down on them.
Since my hearing is already bad, I couldn’t pick up all the words. What had happened is that an issue arose in which someone else from another department came over and questioned an old timer who has been sucking up lots of benefits for staying in his position for a long time. Maybe he is good at what he does. Maybe he knows how to kiss ass, too. Of course, since people at that place prefer to pass on the stick to someone else instead of taking the heat for their lack of alternative means of monetary compensation, Nam raised his voice at the temp girl.
Now I don’t know much about tradition and cultural differences, but he is a nasty old man. He doesn’t even look Vietnamese! In my mind, “You’re next”. I think these people operate on superstition, which is yet another form of fear-mongering and MIND CONTROL to keep the freedom loving spirits from fully express its opposition to the status quo. The way I see this situation is to make the temp girl hate the job so much that when she is “let go”, there would be a sense of relief, nay, no “hurt feelings”. It’s another technique of “soft tyranny” to keep the “evil spirits” from haunting the same people who refuse to say “no” to their superiors.
“They’re stupid.” said the wise old lady. In my mind, I say: “They’re FOREIGNERS!”
