Being a shut-in and having limited mobility means there was really no “last time” that I did any random act of kindness. If the opportunities would present themselves, I would jump right in and assist the best way possible. As long as the long arm of the law doesn’t catch me by the collar, generosity is usually a given trait of most humans. For example, today Maw and I had cooked “arroz calldo”.
Since there was more than enough to eat, we decided to call first to find out if the occupants of the house was available that morning. Later that mid-afternoon, we received a return call from “Minh”. Of course, I’m the driver of the elderly Maw, whose kind heart could not be stopped from sharing her salty tasting rice porridge.
We rang the doorbell with a stick through the gates; heard the thumping noise of running footsteps and saw that “Minh” greeted us in her nice clothes for this evening’s mass. She had her nails done too as I saw through her nylon stockings. The old bag still looks like an orangutan with those wide upper lips.
So yes. In this fine, yet simple example from a walk in life, one can proudly admit that kindness does come in all sorts — picking up the phone to call relatives and finding out how they are or if they are still alive (which Maw did), driving the elderly to different places at anytime during this fine weather of fluff, puffy clouds of white (which I did) and even cutting fresh green onions from our backyard for the girl to chop up at home (which Paw did).

Topic #57: What was the last time you did a random act of kindness? Bonus: If you’ve never done a random act of kindness, do you think you should? why or why not?
