From 11:30am to 1:30pm, the group went out to eat at Paloma’s off Story Rd. I drove the JenJen. There were lots of old Asian guys hanging out in the wide courtyard. That is their past time tradition of drinking coffee, reading newspaper and talking about nonsense while sometimes playing Mahjong.
The rest of us enjoyed lots of veggies (cucumbers, carrots, radishes, lettuce, parsley); meat and spring rolls; triangular-shaped, deep-fried banana fritters; and seafood soup of clams, BIG shrimps, straw mushroom, hard bamboo sticks, and squash with jalapeno peppers and bay leaf. Dessert was young coconut. The gelatin was really sweet.
The owner of the place greeted the big boss. It was his birthday and the big-boned wife brought him red balloons and joined in the gathering. I played the Happy Birthday tune on piano rather horribly. Tess said I was rusty.
Then I strummed a few chords and plucked a gospel tune: “City of God” on a classical guitar. Bahaha!
At 3:00pm, the birthday cake cutting session was over.
