I like the appearance of this WordPress.com theme: “Steira” by Made by Elephant. The columns are two with the table dividing the “content element” and the “sidebar element” almost fifty-fifty. Plus, the fonts are larger and easy to read, thanks to tweaking with my paid CSS upgrade. The cool color scheme, too, of basic blue and white, with a hint of grays, reminds me of the architectural wonders of mathematically precise Muslim mosques.
I almost do NOT miss the “meta data element” containing the time stamp, which could be approximated from the syndicated RSS feed to my weblog. I usually blog “on the go” and the time stamp gives my readers the time of my precious thoughts. Sometimes, the time references are entered into the body of the text. I prefer time stamps underneath the post/entry title for both archive/index pages and single view posts.
I should miss my precious sidebar widgets containing what this theme lacks in templates for “Links” and “Archives”. But more sidebar widgets add too much length to my weblog. I prefer a shorter, webpage layout instead of a stretched out version of multitple post entries. My sidebars have some images, which can be clicked. But I noticed some WordPress.com themes have “image widgets” with VERY light-colored captions!
