Again, I am cleaning up old files and found a letter from City of Portsmouth, Virginia from the safe. It has the seal on the upper left hand corner. The grade of paper will last for a VERY long time. Here is message to me on the day of my birth:
You are too young to read this now, but in later years your mother will tell you that you were born in the nation’s oldest naval hospital in the City of Portsmouth, Virginia.
As you grow older, you will undoubtedly travel much, especially since your father is in the service of his country; and as a reminder of that joyful time when you joined the rest of us in this old world, I wish to make you an honorary citizen of the City of Portsmouth. Enclosed you will find your certificate of honorary citizen.
May your life be a long and happy one.
Very truly yours,
Jack P. Barnes

Right there, I have provided proof of my birth. The letter contains a brief history of my origin, an invitation and a blessing. I am proud to be an American. Are you?
