The boy called for a ride to work this morning but we were at morning mass (as usual). The rains fell VERY strongly during our ride home. Afterward, we had breakfast at home.
Then out of nowhere from and usually whenever my mind relaxes, I screamed: `Mom!` This means (and WITHOUT fail) that I picked up a future event: a visitor, the boy, who later called around 10:30am for a ride from work and back to his home.
He requested that I bring Paw’s jumper cable, all shiny and new. So I decided to put air into my four of my under-pressured tires because I could feel the uneven and bumpy ride and the humming sound of the deflated tires rolling over the road.
Then I hoped that my battery had enough charge or juice to start. The sound was weak and slow. But my car started. The `CHECK ENGINE` was still there since 12/24/2009 and at the off-ramp from north-bound I-880 to my temporary work up in Union City, CA.
But I managed to pick-up the boy from work (after turning around the parking lot 2.5 times, drive him home and help trouble-shoot why the car wouldn’t start. We determined it was the battery.
We thought my battery was dead, too after I wasn’t able to crank it to start. I tried several times and the boy tried calling his wife, who was away from her desk at work. But I relaxed my mind and scanned the possibilities: I clicked off my locks and clicked on my locks again.
This technique worked to `unlock` the security to my car. For, you see, the Chapman car alarm was installed to lock out the started. The ignition turns but if anything messes with the electrical system, (like what happened with the battery), the alarm locks out the driver.
So we went on our merry way, got his new battery while I waited in my car to give more juice to the battery, revving the engine periodically for about 10 minutes and went home to install his new battery.
The point is: If anyone is going to upgrade their car that drinks too much from the battery, make sure you have a ride. Without a ride, there is no way to take off lunch and buy a new car battery.
Anyway, the boy came home to get his iPhone, which I had in my jacket pocket. Of course, he stayed for awhile and actually ate lunch with us and is usually unannounced but worth the while when family help each other in times of need.
