Encountered tall chap by the name of Ray from San Jose Area Local 43 at McDonald’s. Had his usual black frames of owl-like eyeglasses, slicked back dark hair and well-trimmed bread of salt and pepper.
Showed the three of us his green-colored, military-patterned cast on his left foot, due to an operation on a blister that didn’t seem to heal from his application of Neosporin. Would have cost his leg if infection got to his bone. Walked with a cane. Was told by Maw to elevate legs for better circulation due to his diabetic condition.
Said a postal worker couldn’t afford the rise in premium from healthcare insurance provided by his employer and had to shop around for a better deal. Kaiser Permanente is not getter cheaper either and operates like an HMO.
Couldn’t say much after Maw told him that unions take too much from employees and didn’t believe wealthy people should `spread their wealth` from working hard, just like poor people. Went on to say he came here illegally and didn’t benefit by much.
Had told him that Paw was `forced` to get an ATM/debit card by same branch and was cross-trained by moi to use it for the first time yesterday. Closed his account at Banksters of America since 1968 due to recent requirement of presenting more than CA driver’s license.
