Today we were just about to finish breakfast at McDonald’s when two parishioners came by to chit chat with Maw, mostly. I couldn’t get a few words in, just like Paw, because the more seasoned talkers always get the upper hand.
So from the time after mass to approximately 10:30am, the conversation went on – about challenges in our local parish and how the crazy white lady with the big, bouffant hairdo and her pals didn’t put away the microphone(s) and/or its cord(s). It seems like noone cares except the key individual who has been working or rather volunteering for 30 years of dedication to the Lord.
Poor chap! He went on about how one could tell if a person is truly wealthy. One of his story included a time when he and one of his buddy went out. Both of them were at an airport and noticed a couple of people still in their pajama. Apparently, their tiny dog needed to relieve itself. So these WEALTHY people had instructed their pilot to land the plane and take off later, after the dog was finished with its business!
Now according to him and his long-winded story, he still felt ashamed, admittedly so, about his own Filipino people, who brag about their real property up in the hills near Sierra Rd. They would compare themselves to truly WEALTHY people. Even the wife stuck her nose in the air, mocking their snobbish attitudes.
I know what he means and although I don’t mingle well in crowds or communicate non-stop like these breakfast people, I could sense people bragging about their `material` stuff, which is temporary to these two religious people, including my bio-units.
For example, the Twit has a real estate agent who is supposed to be millionaire, a real estate agent, who told me once at the boy’s birthday party three years ago. But I inquired why she was still working. Her answer (as typical an answer by anyone who is hiding the truth) is: I love what I’m doing.
If that is true, then why is she hanging out in my neighborhood? Do you idiots get the picture? I kept my focus on her face while I sat listening from the sofa as she stood, returning my gaze almost knowingly sending my thoughts to her that I didn’t believe a word. She didn’t say another word and went away.
In another example, when I heard the boy say the same thing about his job and loving what he does, it’s because he did apply himself well to stay in that position. Because without that job, there is no income to support his materialistic vices. And when there is no income, there is no food to feed that Twit or himself. But more importantly, there is nothing to pay down their million dollar debt.
So you see folks, carnal stuff is not worth trying to achieve. It pushes to the person to work long hours. And the stress resulting from trying to keep up appearances (with the more WEALTHY people in my example) will speed up a person’s death from medical conditions (i.e. high blood pressure, hypertension, diabetes, etc.)
