We three attended the 1900pm-2000pm talk by Fr. Tom Allender, S.J. about `Not letting anger make a bad situation worse`. Here are a few highlights from tonight’s series of `Life’s Journey`:
Four Types of Anger
- Anger is truly predetermined by genetics (or DNA). (The bad seed will pass on to future generation. Enough said!).
- I’m not angry! I’m just hurt! (The victim deals with anger by blaming the trigger.)
- I’m not angry! I’m not even hurt! (The victim doesn’t want to deal with the anger even though the trigger is long gone and out of one’s life.)
- I use sex and food as tools for getting even. (Sex is nothing more than an outlet for anger. Diets don’t work.)
Two simple thoughts to keep the faith by changing the rule book for the better:
- Stop beating up yourself up when anger controls your spiritual journey.
- Give credit to yourself for trying to be GOOD!
Bottom-line: Give up your brow-beating control and your soul-killing pride so that God can help you realize that recorded efforts (like a photograph of a rider on a 100-mile trail) is NOTHING without the value of the spiritual journey (like a photograph of a sun and Michael inside).
