As mentioned in my previous blog entry, Joseph talked over the phone with Maw and like other Filipinos told the truth about socio-economic differences:
- Poor relatives (or destitute people in general) don’t know when enough is enough. They keep asking for more and when you don’t give them what they want, you are hated.
- Poor relatives (or destitute people in general) are spoiled. They don’t know how to appreciate their sponsors’ hard work and think their free-hand outs will continue forever.
- Poor relatives (or destitute people in general) don’t know that people are NOT banks and that they can just call long distance to get quick cash as if going to an ATM.
Lesson 1: So give nothing to ungrateful beggars and still be hated: It’s the next best thing to love.
That’s what Joseph try to do: move out of the Philippines. But he has learned from Maw to say: `No`. He, too, learned from his father, who retired from the military. Joseph told his other siblings NOT to touch their parents pension, which was earned through hard work.
Lesson 2: Work hard until you bleed to death, knowing you did NOT beg or feed you children STOLEN money, which will be turned into karma for each generation to come until someone down the line REPAYS for the misdeeds of their past ancestors (or so does my thoughts dictate).
