After buying one dozen donuts for $3.99 (with Safeway card), Signature Deli – Chicken salad and five pieces of fried chicken for $5.00m, we decided to burn off breakfast by going to the Eastridge Mall in San Jose, CA.
We parked at the Macy’s parking lot and I saw the jewelry stand of Macy’s. The guy working with the binders was rude but the shorter, fatter lady was being a salesperson, apologizing about the nasty behavior of that spook and showing up EXPENSIVE jewelry.
Maw got mad at me as if I treated her as a ‘idiot and disabled’, both of which are true (jokingly, of course, with a wing and fingers crossed) and her mumbling about my mental state. I always tease her badly for being too vocal but she wanted to flap her lips, err, rather converse with anyone, i.e. the lady, just to look and not be rude. Whatever crone!
We then made our way towards Kay’s Jewelers but went to Zales first. We were greeted by Cristina, who told us horror stories about her son selling lands and asking for money and how her manugang (or in-law) didn’t offer to help wash dishes for the guest AND owner of the house! Again, she learned the hard way about using up her LIFE’s savings to help her children, mostly her apos (or grandchildren).
Maw shared her stories about the same, whereby ungrateful relatives continue to ask for money and how she ‘starved’ by not buying food, just to help. But saying ‘NO’ is difficult and the guilty feeling is replaced with: enough is enough.
No longer do we receive ‘collect calls’. No longer could we send money over to the Philippines. For Cristina and my parental units have learned that NOONE would help in their old age. The concern is also their pension might not be available due to California being bankrupt. But mostly it’s because retired folks live on fixed income and CANNOT afford to spend more .
Then she referred us to ‘GEM Custom Jewelry Designs‘ where we found two charms (crucifix) on sale by half price. Hoang (a Vietnamese) repaired the broken 22K necklace of Maw on the spot and for a bargain! You can see his picture on the glass of the office: He’s posed in front of his light blue, Mercedes-Benz. In my mind, the job doesn’t look like much but these hard-working, business owners have MONEY!
We walked around and went in and out two shops: Christopher & Banks, which is moving to Newark Mall in Fremont, CA and Lane Bryant (for thicker-sized women). We then made our way around to Sears so I could poop and JCPenny’s and then back through Macy’s past Crystalline Bridal, where they offer excellent service by helping Maw find and alter the dress for her son’s wedding.
Then Maw got tired and now she is sleeping upstairs in the room; while Paw is cleaning off the $189.99, burgundy-colored walker (with a seat and shopping basket) that Maw used while walking around in the mall. It makes a great holder for our heavy handbags. The parakeets are playing, held the baby parakeet (who was seen popping its head out the nest box more frequently) in my hand almost everyday, making Yeyo scream!
