Again, the things of this planet is temporary. Even durable goods like, automobiles, home appliances and yes, a lawn mower. Today, Paw discovered that the unit leaked gasoline, the same reason he had brought in the mower on 05/08/2009. Maw helped him drain it off the gas.
We had to bring back the lawn mower to the Sears Service Center, a place I would not have wanted to visit again. But since this item was a Sears Craftsman product and we wanted to take advantage of the stupid 90 day warranty, we had nowhere else to submit this piece of junk.
We inquired with David, the skinny Asian kid, about this feature. It looked like that we would end up paying for new parts (probably the hose or tank or both or whatever the case may be) and/or labor, which is supposed to be free.
We knew being ‘taken for the ride’ was part of business. I knew that it would have been better off buying a new one for the same price of repair. I emphasised in my slower than normal speech that:
I’m concerned for potential fire hazard due to leaking gas. And I don’t want anyone hurt.
Of course, the kid cracked a smile after I told a humor that our grass would be tall as wheat and that we could make bread from our own lawn. The leakjing mower won’t be ready until after two weeks.
We could have borrowed the brat’s mower when he offered it to us last week, but the old man refused for whatever stubborn reason (as usual). Maw and I kept silent but I got loud that perhaps he will take care of his own lawn, even if the height of the ‘wheat’ might ruin the repaired mowever.
But because it Paw happens to be sentimental, he values his property no matter how old or devalued the item may be — to him it’s like his babies, meant to be wiped very clean and pampered for its next use on our lawn, both front and back.
Getting rid of old stuff is hard; for this applied to the old red-colored, Chevy Citation hatchback, which was at its time the one of first front-wheel driven car in its class. It was well taken cared of by Paw until the days when it started leaking transmission fluid.
We ended up donating this piece of junk to a neighbor down the road. We no longer see this car parked in front of their house, however. I guess like any old goods and when it’s time to go, it’s better to get a new replacement. Sometimes its hard to find good replacements but new stuff is always cool!
