California Proposition 8 (2008)
Proposition 8 was a California ballot proposition passed in the November 4, 2008, general election. It changed the state Constitution to restrict the definition of marriage to opposite-sex couples and eliminated same-sex couples’ “right to marry”, thereby overriding portions of the ruling of In re Marriage Cases.
You could always change the language of the laws to suit your, err, ‘needs’ in modern times. So technically the word ‘marriage’ to connote a ‘union’ between a male and female bio-unit could be replaced with the words ‘civil union’ between same-sex bio-units; thus avoiding the confusion between man-made laws of benefits (civil) and God’s law of procreating (marriage). Never mind.
