I really wanted a job. Yesterday, I got a call from ‘Scott’. He or others saw my resume online via CareerBuilders.com for an ‘Accounting Clerk’, which required bookkeeping skills from A/R to A/P and everything in between. All my life, I had only A/R experiences.
I decided: ‘What the heck! And out of fun, I decided to meet with ‘Steve’ at the 2:00PM interview off of Stevens Creek Blvd. in San Jose, CA. It was supposed to have been ‘Bill’ nearby my zip code area. But he was ‘out of office’ per Scott. Yeah, that’s right!
I actually made it there with my unreliable car. Last week, Paw and I discovered that the coolant level was low and VERY dirty. Since I was strapped for much needed cash, I read the owners manual in the hopes of doing the cooling system myself. I found out that I had to flush the radiator!
No wonder my car stopped during that one hot day! In order to keep the engine cool, I kept driving my gray-colored, 1998 Ford Mustang under 40 miles per hour. This meant taking the back roads past the SJPD in downtown San Jose, CA and past Valley Fair Mall. The ride was relaxing, knowing that my old car and I will make the 20 minute travel.
I knew what that long interview was all about – signing up as an agent, which is similar to what my cousin is doing. He almost got me into a $250,000.00 hole! With the troubled economy as it is now, I’m glad that ‘scheme’ didn’t work out because I certainly didn’t have that kind of cash on hand!
None in our family or relatives owns that kind of money. It was hard work of overtime work for over three decades in America! This is how my parents got to where they are now – retired comfortably, with their pensions and such. They didn’t pull at anyone for investment. They worked out of their own blood, sweat and tears.
So back to the goon who interviewed me: He wanted to pull my parents in to talk with him. Man! These sales representative, agents, marketer (or whatever the heck they are called) are really riding up my nerves! I know how these $#!+heads are capable of doing.
It happened to me over a course of 8.7 slong years, by the way. The goon talked my lingo and I went along. But what really pissed me off was paying that ‘capital investment’ up front. This meant the usual background check and the ability to get into the payroll.
I told him I didn’t have anything and didn’t have enough to bring my stupid car in for servicing. I already spent over $3,000.00 in repairs for this damn car. But it is still pretty to look at. Maybe I could pass on this hard work of mine after making sure it’s properly serviced for safety.
Anyway, I asked the goon if I needed legal, accounting and sales experience to get the job done. He claimed that he would be the ‘mentor’. OMG! And that I could set my schedules. Wow! I asked if I would make ‘cold calls’ and such. But it reality it’s about networking! WTF?
This meant talking with people! I hate people! I hate the communicating by emails, talking on the phone and chatting online with strangers. I told him I value my privacy and didn’t like the idea of networking with friends and relatives, just to get commission, which is EXACTLY like what my cousin does.
I hate networking: I know what losing $20.00 is like for this stupid work-at-home scams! The ‘training materials’ that was emailed to me was nothing more that a pyramid scheme in which a ‘script’ was copy and pasted to several ‘advertisement’ weblinks. People like me wanted to make money, right. And the rest is history!
‘Barry’, you’d FIX IT NOW! I’m sick of capitalism and the pigs that suck ‘cash’ out of our hands into their ‘investment schemes’. I have the sample email for y’all to study. This was through CareerBuilders.com, too! WTF?
Anyway, I sent HIS mentor and him the email to decline meeting with him again tomorrow at 10:00AM. I am not happy. All I wanted as a stupid P/T job just to keep busy and meet cute guys. But I’m ‘over-qualified’. And I don’t care about working behind the desk anymore. It’s tedious.
I wasted 1.5 hours sitting there and listening to the pitch. It was educational. But it’s not what I wanted. I’ve received two more emails in the past few days, similar to what this company wanted — more woman to fill the position! Ass#@les, I’m not like those aggressive marketing scum-bags.
