After reading about three Yahoo! articles and a couple more from WordPress.ORG a half hour ago, I’ve learned how to transfer the WordPress 2.6.2 files quickly with the use of FTP (via FileZilla — ‘The Free FTP Solution’). Prior to this latest discovery, I’ve reduced painstaking work from half a day’s worth of manual uploads (of several attempts) in less than a couple of minutes. As a result, the latest WordPress.ORG software version is now updated. I’m proud, tired and still smart!
As a newbie web designer and small business ‘owner’ (of nothingness for now), I will continue to learn the hard way by reading the articles from both the Yahoo! and `codex.wordpress.org` websites. As I did my stupid manual uploads for each file (one by one), I came across a button ‘Run PHP’. I will now attempt to fix the ‘advanced-cache.php link (via Setting > WP-Cache Manager) and see what happens. The path is spelled out clearly and navigating back to the directory via ‘Manage’ > ‘File Manager’ of ‘Web Hosting Control Panel’ should be easy.
Again, I don’t know what happened with the ‘cache’. Now, I’ll see what happens when I try to upload some pretty template designs via the FTP. I keep my eyes on the status bar of this FTP program to make sure the Queued files are ‘zero’ with ‘Successful transfers and nor ‘Failed transfers’. So far, I’ve unzipped some templates and transferred fifteen (15) of sixteen (16) files from my local site to the remote site due to one (1) ‘failed transfer’. It’s also important to ‘disconnect from currently visible server’.
Whoo! Hoo! I see lots of pretty design templates to choose (via Design > Themes) of my WordPress.ORG account via Yahoo!. This time my ‘Current Theme” is ‘State Of Mind 1.0 by Mina‘. It has a nice border similar to a picture frame. It also reminds me of my ‘Current Theme’ of ‘Quentin by Mike Purdy‘ via WordPress.COM. As a matter of fact, I ‘activated’ this theme. I couldn’t help myself again. Sorry!
Anyway, I love FTP. It rocks! I love ‘self-hosting’ my website. But it’s going to take lots of work and programming. I know: I’m slow. So far, I’ve learned that lots of reading is involved to get any knowledge-based, self-help on the technical aspects of ‘running’ a website. Oh, yeah, I decided to set my WordPress.ORG blog site as the ‘Home page’. The ‘Site Solutions’ version is still intact and may provide a link to that one, too.
