Okay, I’m getting jealous. I really want to try WordPress.org for $6.95 per month hosting and wean myself away from WordPress.com for free, well, sort of because I paid 15 credits for CSS Stylesheet editing and another 15 credits for one domain name.
On 08/13/08 and 08/14/08, I’ve contacted WordPress.com support and gotten replies from [Askimet. com] via e-mails due to some timing issue between ‘Referrers’ and ‘Top Posts & Pages’ of the ‘Blog Stats’ section, the ‘Current Widgets’ section not retaining various versions for one, two or more widgets in a particular order and the fact that two gray arrows floated around the bottom of my website!
Anyway, I right clicked the gray arrows and saved a text file showing some sort of XHTML data sheet. This would give me some basis to cross-train myself on how to program a self-hosted website and for once be happy with elements that I could not control via the free WordPress.com. Yeah, I’m a control freak and do get bored easily with the layouts, from fonts, colors and images.
So, I’ve clicked on [http://gmpg.org] from that text file I’ve saved earlier and found Matt’s website. I’m jealous because not only does his site contain javascripts, which WordPress.com does not allow due to security reasons and those nice hover thingys for the top navigation, it has a pretty orange colored background.
After reviewing several other websites from team orgonite, I don’t know if I could handle the extra leg work to keep the site up and running. Monitoring the website seems like hard work. So maybe I’ll keep my current site here for now as mentioned in my previous blogs. It’s easier to be ranting blogger than to be a system administrator.
