Okay, I discovered that the ‘Preview’ mode while logged into my account did not match what was viewable to the public. As a result, the ‘hits’ to my ‘Home page’ increased to the current 25. And this is all because I had log out of my account in order to figure out what the readers were seeing. And I did not like opening up at least two more windows to make sure I wanted the layout perfectly designed.
The ‘html’ containing my heart-shaped clipart image from Microsoft did not show up to the right of the ‘body’ element while in public mode. However, while logged into my account under the ‘Preview’ mode and while using the ‘Change Zoom Level’ to my IE7 browser, I could see this annoying, extra ‘white space’ by scrolling horizontally to the right.
I tested the various screen resolutions from my favorite 800 x 600 resolution, which allows for larger pixels, to more pixels like 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024. I found that ‘flexible’ or ‘fluid’ layout (with widths ranging from 80% to 100%) looked too wide to read and opted to set my ‘wrapper’ (or ‘container’) to a ‘fixed’ width of 750px. It’s a hybrid.
This maximum width of 750px looked perfect under the 800 x 600 screen resolution but the larger screens would have a narrow view of my one column monster and the wide purple gaps on either side of this ‘body’, giving an out of proportion frame-like appearance.
I’ve done more modifications: filled pale green and pale cyan colors to the comment form and its submit button and to the ‘input’ (or search boxes), respectively; removed the pixels to some widths and set those to percentages instead; changed the font colors to the ‘h2’ header of the sidebar and included a 3px solid purple underline for each sidebar (or widget) items and spaced the ‘top margin’ of 10px for both the ‘topbar’ (or navigation bar) and the ‘header’.
So far, my current ‘DayDream’ theme of WordPress looks good to me — all pastel and pretty, yes. I know I won’t be happy with this layout for too long because it’s missing some elements that I’ll have to learn and program into my paid CSS stylesheet. Maybe web design may be my newest occupation, away from some boring cubicle job in the finance sector, yuck.
