After receiving another stupid call delaying the inevitable from the fat one a few minutes ago, I managed to edit my CSS stylesheet the whole of this morning. The day is clear blue skies and beautiful and the white flowers of our apricot tree is blooming since last week. His weather overseas, however, is rainy and gloomy.
The original ‘Chaos Theory’ was too dark and black. With the paid upgrade, we administrators have the ability to modify the layout to our liking but we cannot do anything with the elements. One reason why people like me get easily bored with one theme is that we cannot seem to personalize the layout the way we want from the color, size, text, etc. There are more features that are lacking in other themes that I cannot find elsewhere with this current one.
The first modification was centering the header, enlarging the font size to 24px and changing the text colors to blue and gray instead of black and white. Second, I expanded the width of the entry content (floating right) from 510 to 580 and reduced the width of the entry meta (floating left) from 250 to 180.
But this meant the entry title had to be reduced from 24px to 20px in order for the posting information from overlapping the content entries to the right. I reviewed some of my older posts and found the sentences with the longest lines to one of my poems are not wrapped around to the next line! I love this version better.
A poem is not simply words but a visual art form that could be compromised by the default themes that have narrow columns. And I don’t like small fonts either! It hard on the eyes for us more myopic individuals and I don’t always remember to zoom into the pages. I would prefer to read what is already presented by the bloggers.
Now that I’ve finished editing most of the areas of my weblog site that I feel needed improvement, I am able to blog once again. This morning’s breakfast of pancakes I made the size of one’s palm and cleaning up thereafter are minor distractions for blogging upstairs in my computer room. I do hope this time current theme is a keeper because, frankly, I grow weary of looking at the same old theme.
Unfortunately there is this annoying drawback: I cannot copy and paste a ‘normal’ sized version for my archives onto a word document in case the WordPress.com server eliminates my hard work. I would have to go back and darken the light text in order to read the small print. But regardless of this small sacrifice of convenience, I am proud to say that I’m happy for the time being.
