20080107-Smoking Smell

Ah! I don’t know what’s going on. My sense of smell is still intact but not as keen as some of my family units. I have recently used a medicated nasal spray (which I plan to replace with a more natural one as soon as the bottle is finished) in order to open up my stuffed up sinuses of which the left side has a deviated septum.

This morning I woke up around five thirty to use the bathroom and saw Maw drag herself towards the facility while the place was still occupied (as I’m too lazy to close the wide opened bathroom door). We didn’t say much as she proceeded to do whatever in her bedroom — lights open, radio slightly blaring that I couldn’t get back to sleep after blogging another hour or so about my dreams.

I had to close my bedroom door (which is normally open to aerate what I consider is too small a room for me) to block out the sight of bright lights and the sound of loud sounds — mostly which is something I thought I could not hear with my bad hearing from childhood sickness and one traits inherited from my paternal side of the family.

I knew it was time to go to morning mass but feigned being too sleepy to get up and ready myself because, besides feeling groggy from too much blogging, I really don’t see myself as a religious church goer who sincerely tries to make sense of the outdated practice of many years growing up as a Catholic.

At 07:30AM, my bio-units left without alerting me to their daily dose of morning mind pill at our local church since 1978. Usually, Maw would holler with impatient zeal and Paw would knock on the wall from downstairs. But all I heard was the slamming of the garage door. One would think good ‘Christian’ folks like them would have the decency to be more genteel and avoid structural damage to the property.

An image showing the front of St Victor's Catholic Church in San Jose, CA.

This parish is situated near the foothill in San Jose, CA and down this long strip of road named after my maternal mother’s maiden name, currently my middle name — unless with ‘God’s will — may be changed legally. It has a Spanish theme with lots of big wooden buttresses on the interior, light brown clay flooring, maroon red carpeting and hard wooden pews.

St. Victor’s Parish was burned down at 1978 but was re-built with lots of donation including one pew worth $1,000.00 by my bio-units. Money back in those days was a lot. And those names that helped with the rebuilding are permanently included on a memorial plaque located on the right hand side of a wall at the lobby. One could see the names of my bio-units.

So at 07:30AM and after hearing the garage door slam, I got up and smelled smoke to the right side of my bed. I could only use my imagination and assume that someone had visited me in my bedroom. The smell of the slightest tinge of what could be cigarette burning may be from a ‘friend’ somewhere and somehow continues to elude my visual senses.

In the year of 2005, I’ve participated in a forum (now closed down by the site owner himself) where a bunch of people came together and chatted. This was one of two times where I truly experienced people able to share their thoughts by ‘holding hands’. My sense of smell picked up lots smoke and in particular an unpleasant acrid odor, much like an alien.

But I will never know to this day how these odors manifest themselves, who or what kind of entity possibly have the time or ability to come by invisibly or what are the reasons for the opportunity to blog about more strange tales which I’m sure none would believe until retold by others with similar stories.
