Finally, I will enter today’s blog regarding our cleaning the backyard. I awoke several times during the morning but did not actually get out of bed until around 09:05AM. As I opened the blinds to let in the sunlight, I did smell Maw’s cooking downstairs.
We had expected Brat to visit us today as soon as Twit left to work on Saturday. But I told my bio-units he is inconsistent. And Twit has already expressed this truth. He did not show up at all and we were not surprised but perhaps disappointed; since he does live only two minutes away.
We finished breakfast in our calmer manner now that Brat has moved away and on with his life. By 10:00AM, we were not sure how to begin the day. We opted to either walk around the mall in Milpitas, CA or start with more cleaning of clutter from over the years. I messaged Brat to come pick up more of his junk later on.
Maw’s suggestion started out with the old bird cages sitting under the patio of our backyard. So afterward and in my leisurely pace, I washed and dried the biggest black cage. The bars on this one cage is spaced smaller for the feet of these parakeets but the interior seemed to cramp for these fat ones.
Then the matter of figuring out how to store the golden cage of medium size and three smaller ones of two green and one purple remained. I had difficulty finding big enough plastic bags that would fit over the golden cage, which once housed out beloved, late JoJo of thirteen years old. Then my big brain found a thirty-nine gallon hefty sized plastic bag that worked its miracle.
The other cages had already been bundled nicely. All that was left was replacing the dusty ones with fresh plastic bags. I had found a nice empty wall near the Benz and proceeded to stuff the purple and green cages inside this black cage and the golden cage placed below the open iron cabinet. The loose wires were placed below also.
Paw accomplishment today was cleaning out the fish cabinet of iron. There were old equipment of charcoal filters; two lamps and other items. He wiped down this cabinet that we assembled on 02-19-1984 for $32.25. He found my hand written date stamp painted underneath Paws self assembled wooden piece to the iron structure.
He swept the dustiness and dried leaves from behind where the cabinet was once located and he moved my plastic tool holder back where I originally had installed this under the patio. After Brat moved his junk out from underneath the patio, the place is cleaner and more livable.
Maw did the cooking and some other smaller tasks due to her deteriorating health condition and old age. She cleaned the parakeet containers and swept more debris from off the cemented floor of the patio. She screamed out in her normal frustration; blamed both Paw and me for the habit of saying ‘No’; and accused us of not appreciating her hard work.
Today, after over three decades, the three of us sat down together for an outdoor picnic. We pulled out the white table, which was hand made from a left over door during one of the many house remodeling projects; set the table for a two course meal of fish head soup with asparagus and lug-lug noodles; and waited for Paw to come over after five minutes of cleaning himself up.
My stomach ached probably from all the exertion of cleaning the clutter out back. But I knew my system had to use the toilet but didn’t feel any need. So after my eating up almost all the noodles and my bio-units eating up the fish soup; we cleaned up some more and felt better.
The day is beautiful; the sky is clean; and the air is warm. The refreshing day has brought us together to clean up more clutter from the backyard and to enjoy each others company with our first picnic of lunch under the open patio.
