20060302-Botherly Love

Oh, brother, here we go again, I think to myself. “Can we talk?” Brat asks me. I sit here in my room trying to type this blog and replied to him, “Sure, it’s no bother. What seems to be the problem?”

It is another session as psychologist to Brat after a much heated debate with Maw over issues that have already been brought forth from prior and similar events. So I hear him out as usual and try to provide as much reassurance and insight from not having been down that road before.

An outsider like me would watch in amused horror as the bickering between Brat (old soul) and Maw (insecure child) play their roles well enough to make my inner guidance work overtime. I feel their problems are really not mine and theirs alone only time will tell. I seem to be in the middle almost all the time and am still learning to view both sides at one time.

Maw and Brat seem to have not learned from each other with all those exchanges of verbal parleys of who is right and wrong, of who has more to offer in wisdom and knowledge and of who shouldn’t worry about anything or anyone in the first place.

She wants to participate in the affairs of others while he has his own thoughts to handle. Her mission is for improvement for most while his assessment is worse for some. Both are truly amazing at the differences in fighting spirit.

How could they keep all that energy up and running at full speed, debating like two chickens naturally comfortable with their own strengths and being way too much over their egos that only a gentle parakeet feather up one’s nose and the resulting sneezes could break the twosome into silence? And I wonder why can’t they practice the art of peaceful discussions instead of bantering loudly into the night?

All their childish resentments borne out of fear and anger could end in an instance by simply loving each other for who they are-human and nothing more. They do love each other. And the very fact they bother to fight for what they believe to be true in their own minds simply shows they care.

Simply allowing the silent treatment may not always be beneficial because that leaves the parties almost invisible as if none exists. Active participation is essential no matter how much a person may be loved or hated.

I may have discovered that this entire stage act is really another one of life’s lesson to be played out in front of this casual observer paying a high price to advance in small steps towards larger leaps and bounds in knowledge, wisdom and discernment.

All I could really do is sit back and learn like a student in class because my words for them to stop seem to fall on deaf ears when both have locked horns and won’t budge to allow breathers for reflections. Paw sits in utter silence until both defenders of their own truths have run the course to an almost what seems to be a stalemate of equally gifted intellectuals.

There is, however, no price greater than to see two dearly beloved persons make a big deal for something that really could be resolved by listening carefully to what the other has to offer. Somewhere is the middle ground that should unite the differences of the heart.

Maybe enjoying a tall cold one could provide nothing but laughter and light hearted conversations and we could learn in this simple fashion of comrade that there is no bother to love thy brother, anytime. The only thing is we do no drink alcohol in the house.
