When someone has an aneurysm in the brain, chances of death is great. There is a slim chance of survival and the possibility of paralysis or coma, a life in a vegetative state.
Today we visited a VERY religion woman with BIG hands, which symbolizes in Filipino folklore someone who grabs stuff, metaphorically speaking that is. She was alert when we entered the room at around 11:30am.
According to her story, she was conscious throughout her ordeal and didn’t have signs of high blood pressure whatsoever.
Earlier last Thursday and while her husband was installing Christmas lights outdoors, she felt a severe headache in the back of to the right side of her head and heard a sudden, loud pop. The sensation of HEAT was felt trickling down her neck, which was really the leakage of blood from the ruptured blood vessel inside her brain.
She was airlifted to the center that specializes in this type of trauma to the head.
The medical condition may be hereditary or from her smoking, which narrows the blood vessels. She has since stopped smoking for seven years. Her husband has moderate emphysema and is inhaling medication. The scare of his wife’s sudden illness prompted him to seek medical treatment for his ailing health and is now taking high blood medications.
While waiting and talking with Paw, I observed the ultrasound testing. The nurse pressed many buttons and entered many codes on the keyboard of the portable machine. Imagine the technology, the knowledge base of the medical personnel, the bags of sodium chloride, the fat wires and cables coming out from underneath the bed and tubes leading to and from the arms of the patients and the IV’s.
I wonder if the passage of Obama’s socialized healthcare insurance reform bill would have saved this woman’s life.
I believe her STRONG faith in GOD helped her live a little bit longer for her seven grandchildren. I believe Maw’s prayers and the woman’s family unity kept her strong. I believe that miracles do happen for people like her and in recent news like a man who has been vegetative but whose brain was active.
