  • Custom Link Colors…

Out of curiosity, I’ve read the information on Theme: Twenty-Eleven and discovered yet another neat feature: custom link colors! The “Default color is #1b8be0”. So I went to an online “color scheme generator” and found that selected “660099”, which is a dark royal purple.

So from within my “Dashboard”, I went from Appearance → Theme Options; typed in the new RGB code of six numbers and pressed the “Save Changes” button. Voila! Now the links changed from light blue to its current color of grape. I’m hungry now.

  • Paid ideas…

I have had sent many suggestions to Support for the improvements of my blogging experience. I’ve heard that people with ideas actually get paid. Would royalties be paid out for any possible copyrighted material that was submitted here at WordPress.com by moi? I was just wondering if a possible “barter” could take place, say, a premium theme to my liking in exchange for my thoughts. Hmmm.

  • WordPress.com 504 Error

After trying to view another WordPress.com weblog site, I just received the following message! It appears that something went wrong! I wonder what happened! WTF? OMB! LOL!

    Whoops!

There was a small systems error. Please try refreshing the page and if the error is still there drop us a note and let us know.

  • Following my blog…

Now why would I want to follow my own weblog? I noticed a link to “Follow” at the top of my dashboard and decided out of curiosity to click on it. Lo and behold! I’ve added myself to my own “Following” list. Is this logical? I don’t think so. At least I know what other “Followers” are seeing. There appears to be a summary of twenty-five (25) maximum words that will be displayed, along with the gravatar inside a circle, a LARGE photo, if any, the post title, the site title, a “Like” and “Reblog”, the number of words to read and and how long ago the post was made in hours and minutes.

  • 20110812-Trying Theme

Well, I am trying the Manifest theme again because it has two templates for “Archives” and “Links” and one-column with “contents” element above the “sidebar” element below. However the fonts look too small. So I will keep looking for my ideal weblog without using the upgrade for CSS stylesheets.

WTF? Am I being locked out? After changing my “Tagline” to be very specific (short and sweet, too) as to who authored this weblog site, I decided to change my WordPress.com theme back to “Twenty-Eleven”. I must the only one seeing the following message:

“You are not authorized to use that theme.”

  • Playing with customized menus…

Well, I’ve been switching themes and playing around with my customized menus. I’ve gotten an error message because I had two screens up:

“The given object ID is not that of a menu item.”

    —

So I’ll have to go back and recreate the two missing links.

  • 20110809-Trying Theme

Okay, I’m trying yet another WordPress.com theme:

    Matala by Matt Mullenweg

Matala is a colorful, textured theme that supports two widget areas, six post formats, and several customization options, including custom background, custom header and an optional random image gallery on single image pages. Read more about Matala →

The previous theme that I tried a few minutes ago did NOT handle a Zemanta image (aligned right or left) well because the blockquote, well, blocked off the image.

This current theme looks okay for now. Again, I’m still searching for my ideal WordPress.com theme. But that requires tweaking the CSS stylesheet and frankly, I burned myself out trying to perfect something to nothing at all…

Well, I’m trying this WordPress.com theme again:

Vostok by Javier Cañada and Rubén Lozano (CSS and images) and the WordPress team (PHP, HTML)

A dark, elegant one-column theme with a widget-ready footer. Options include a custom header image, custom background image and color, custom header images (using featured images for posts and pages), and a full navigation menu in the header. Read more about Vostok →

This theme is the closest one to my preferences:

    • One-column, fixed-width. (For smaller screen resolution).
    • Minimal. (For slower internet connection).
    • Dark color scheme or gray, white and black. (Like ET and MIB). (Light color scheme to washed out).
    • Blog title followed by tagline. A must.
    • Custom header image alone and randomized with eight default images!
    • Customized menu. A must.
    • Post title followed by Posted on [pubdate] by [author]. A must.
    • Content/words.
    • Previous and next navigation links with full post titles each. Important.
    • Arial fonts, normal and clear. (For myopic eyes).
    • Enable threaded (nested) comments handled well.
    • Blockquotes and orange links handled well.
    • Two footers – primary and secondary.

My left sidebar include widgets that are supposed to be variable.

My right sidebar include widgets that are supposed to be static.

  • 20110808-Trying Theme

This time I’m trying Theme: Liquorice by Nudge Design. I like this one because it has BIG fonts! The “Posted on [pubdate] by Flynn” is shown directly underneath the “Post Title” for both the index and post pages. Plus, the “datestamps” can be viewed by placing the mouse over the [pubdate] link. The “Customized Header” works well but I have to figure out a good font color for the header instead of the default color of “red”. I like how the “blockquotes” and “Enable threaded (nested) comments” are handled inside different colors. But I don’t like how the “Asides” were handled: the post titles disappear!

  • Showcase and sidebar templates…

I’ve discovered two more “nifty” things with the Twenty Eleven theme.

First the “Showcase Template”. My sample is my “Welcome” page.

-The top section displays the page itself.

-The next section displays the “sticky” post as a except with a link to “Continue reading”.

-The bottom section displays the most recent post entry followed by only the links to the next set of titles (depending on how many posts are set to display per page). There is an “Ephemera” widget in the sidebar widget, too.

    —

Second, the “Sidebar Template” shows the Page, along with a sidebar. You see, the default display for the Page views are full-width, no side bar.

If only there were more TEMPLATES to create, such as Archives and Links, I’d be happier.

  • Title element equals time stamp…

Oh! Haha! The laughs on me! At 12:42am, I discovered something else “spiffy” with the new Theme: Twenty Eleven | Blog at WordPress.com. There’s a time-date stamp for both index and post pages!

Why are you doing this to me and keeping mysteries unsolved until readers find out the HARD WAY? Should I assume that OLDER WordPress.com themes come with this feature? (Gosh darn-it! I see it on SOME themes!)

How did I find out? I noticed the words “Posted on [pubdate]“. When I placed my mouse over the link of “publication date”, I saw the “title” element reflect the “time” element when the post was first published!

So, I guess I’ll keep this theme. When I tried to copy and paste a “backup” of my precious posts and/or pages unto a word document (and not a “notepad”), the “entry meta” showing the “datetime” stamp (in particular) was intact.

Now I have to decide: do I want to keep Twenty-Eleven (or Twenty-Ten) or go with an OLD theme that displays my “datetime” stamp as visibale text? Hmm.
