• 20110828-Trying Theme

Well, this time I’m trying Theme: Blix by Sebastian Schmieg. It’s one of my old favorite, even though it doesn’t have the “timestamp” displayed on each post and/or pages. But at least I could view the “source code” and find out how and when my publication occurred.

And with my paid upgrade for “Custom Design”, I tweaked the CSS stylesheet from its original colors of aqua and lime green (yuch) to its current color of light tan (not the sunburned color on the skin). I center aligned the text for both header and footer. And that’s all I did.”

I’m still deciding on using my “Get a Discount” towards this “Custom Design” feature before it expires. But I’m so cheap, err, on a budget and again, I could NEVER be satisfied with the appearance and layout of my weblog.

As mentioned in my old blog(s), I deleted LOTS of old folders, including anything for WordPress.com. I got sick and tired of looking at outdated files, photos, videos and audio that will never be viewed, especially my old stylesheets. I’m not even done scanning old photos and/or its negatives.

As for “cleaning house” and after waking up from my two hour nap at around 3:00pm, I reluctantly help Maw vacuum, dust and rearrange furnishings downstairs. I really want to dump a whole LOT more but don’t have permission from the home owners! I hated the heat and sweat from the exertions, too Ugh!

  • Timestamps and timezones…

To WordPress.com Support team and pals:

Can you please synchronize the effects of various timezones to be reflected in the timestamps for the “meta” elements?

I have changed the Timezones (via General Settings) three times since I started blogging: from PST to PDT and then to UTC. But the timestamps for the “meta” elements of ALL my posts are still stuck in the previous timezones.

I want to know if there is way to FORCE the timestamps for the “meta” elements to properly reflect the various timezones via my cellphone and/or computers at home and/or at work.

  • Testing “edit post”…

This is a blog entry which will be entered through my cellphone. I will press the “Upload Now” and record how the timestamp appears as Pacific Time (cellphone) versus Univeral Time (weblog). I will then wait a few minute after it is published and then “Edit Post”.

At 9:55pm (Pacific Time) via my computer, I pressed the “Edit Post” to this blog entry. It’s now 9:57pm. I will press the “Save” button at 9:58pm to see if the post remains as “Publish” or as “Scheduled”.

  • Connection Error

While trying to delete (via my cellphone) two comments, which were already deleted (via my computer), I received the following error message:

    “>Connection Error

XMLRPC Fault: You are not allowed to moderate comments on this site.

[OK]”

So now both comments are stuck on my cellphone’s “WordPress Version 1.4.1 app”!

  • Testing “upload now”…

This is a blog entry which will be entered through my cellphone. I will press the “Upload Now” and record how the timestamp appears as Pacific Time (cellphone) versus Univeral Time (weblog).

  • Layout… One-column, no sidebar…

For the Twenty Eleven Theme Options, I’ve set the “Layout”: not “Content on left”, not “Content on right” but “One-column, no sidebar”. That’s right!

Now the reader gets to concentrate on reading my precious posts/pages instead of being distracted with sidebar widgets.

I don’t like clutter, even on my desks. I like simple and clean.

And by using only two of the three optional “Footer widgets” available LONGER links are expanded and therefore easier to view.

Again, what I like about the Twenty Eleven Theme is the “auto-fit” of the weblog to the screen resolution and how the footer widgets are reduced from three or two columns to one columns.

  • Combining topics…

I was thinking of the best a way to handle my commonly recurring posts, such as noticing numbers, divorced nutter, more spooks, prayer journal and dream journal. Should I:

-Create one post for each topic and copy/paste comments? A sample post would be “Post Published affirmations…”

-Create one page and update the page with permalinks to each topic?

    -Use the different “Post Formats”?

Practically, I could start with the topic noticing numbers as a test run and maybe register another weblog for dreams, like John Jr’s.

Well, this time I’m trying Theme: Toolbox by Automattic. After checking how the deleted post looks like via my subscription “Reader” online, this is how the message looks:

Well this is somewhat embarrassing, isn’t it?

It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching, or one of the links below, can help.

Below this message is a LONG “Search” bar.

Below this “Search” bar there are three columns:

    • Recent Posts,
    • Most Used Categories, and
    • Archives – Try looking in the monthly archives. 🙂

Now, if only I know how the “Post Formats” work and look, I might learn something.

  • Happy blogging… smiles…

So I’m currently watching the 36:21 presentation by the Matt meister. He has curly hair and that is quite a refreshing look compared to the younger and cleaner version from last year. The beard makes him look, well, desirable. I cannot find the correct word. Forgive me! Again, his accent is not “Americanized” and that’s hot but still reasonably understandable. He makes a great teacher with all that knowledge base he has to share. Teach me more codes!

So far there’s lots in the presentation — colorful. I’ll let you go for now and check out the newsletter at http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/08/19/growth-of-wordpress/.

Oh and I’m “You like this (391).”

  • I “Liked” your post…

What does it take for a reader to “Like” someone’s post? What are the feelings or thoughts before the reader decides to press the “Like” button.

A thought just entered my mind: when a post resonates with the reader, the blog entry should at least received a “Like”.

But what about the “Stars” and “Neros”? I often wonder about those ratings and how any one post deserves a high a rating as opposed to a low rating.

One time, I contacted the Support and inquired if they would implement something to the effect of giving an unfavorable rating. The response was in the negative.

Later we get improvements. (Hehehe!) And I guess sad smiley faces will have to do for now.

  • Security update and 15% off upgrade coupon from WordPress.com

OMG! WTF! LOL! Are you sure TPTB and pals didn’t “see” anything “interesting” on my personal weblog? Hmmm. Well, then okay! So let’s see. Which of the following stuff do I want?

“The coupon can be used for a custom domain, a design upgrade, VideoPress, or a storage space increase.”

  • Page equals stats…

I see a new “button” on my Dashboard. It looks like a graph with the following “title” when the mouse is placed over the button. It shows tabs for days (30), Weeks (33), and months (32) under the “At A Glance”:

“Showing site views per hour for the last 48 hours. Click for full Site Stats.”

The usual “post boxes” of Referrers, Search Engine Terms, Totals, Subscriptions & Shares, Top Posts & Pages, Clicks and Incoming Links are shown below the “stat chart box” with the date-time stamp generated for each report. There is also a “Summary Table”.
