  • Dashbord — maintenance notice…

Maintenance notice: 1 hour from now, your dashboard will be temporarily unavailable for up to 15 minutes while we perform database maintenance. Your blog will still be readable and your stats will keep counting.

Please make sure you don’t loose my precious thoughts. VERY IMPORTANT entities, err, people are reading my weblog, by the way. Okay! Thanks! Bye!

  • Third “menu bar”…

Last night, I’ve made yet another discovery with my recent purchase of a “Premium Theme” – Minimum. While reviewing some of my old “pages”, I noticed that there are three different templates besides the “Default Template”: “Archive”, “Blog” and “Landing”. I’ve made use all three templates.

For example, the “Landing” template is a full-width, no sidebar view. While editing the “Dorkboy” page, I discovered a “menu” located to the “right side of the header” but positioned underneath the “Custom Header”. I thought to myself: I’ve got a third menu!

So to archive this look, place two “Available Widget” — “Search” and “Genesis – Page Navigation Menu” — into the “Header Right” sidebar. Depending on the length of each title, you can add at least six pages. Voila!

As for the “Primary Navigation Menu” and “Secondary Navigation Menu”, I’ve assigned five “introductory pages” (Acknowledgements, Foreword, Introduction, Preface, Welcome) and five “external sites” (Living with Orgone, Flickr, Plinky, Twitter, YouTube), respectively.

I could have added more “links” to all three “menu bars” but I didn’t want no more than one line per navigation bar.

  • Recommended Tags – Apply All…

For the past two posts, I’ve used the “Recommended Tags” and pressed the “Apply All” link. It’s that easy and very helpful. I will continue to add tags in this manner as long as I blog via my personal computer. Surprisingly enough, the WordPress app for Android is VERY limited in this function. And I’ve contacted Support on other suggestions, which they have registered for future improvements.

  • Trying Feedfabrik…

Well, I’m trying FeedFabrik.com for the “faux buk” and “authorized connection”. Here is the script from the webpage:

    WordPress.com

    Authorize the connection?

Howdy [WordPress.com username here], Feedfabrik wants to connect to WordPress.com.

So while reading and writing comments, I had to wait and wait and wait for the Feedfabrik.com to work. Here is the “Error 503” message I got from the webpage:

Capture your digital life – take your social media content and turn it into something awesome

    Home »

    Error 503

    Service disabled for maintenance

Sorry, but the service you requested is currently disabled for maintenance (error 503). This can happen when we put new features online. It should be back soon.

Please visit the start page and find your way from there.”

  • 20110907-Noticing Numbers

As per “This report from 2011-09-07, 21:19:40 UTC-7”, the top three recent commentators are:

    • John Jr. – 399
    • FLYNN – 377
    • Donna Carrillo – 32
    • Donna – 24
    • digitalangeldonnadj – 22

Notice the double digit numbers for the first, second and fifth set of numbers!

    Congratulations!

  • Alignment right…

Since the “default” width of this “Premium Theme” is fixed and since I’m still indecisive  to purchase a “Custom Design” upgrade, I’ve set my “Gravatar alignment” to the “right” and the size to “Extra Large (256 pixels)” and also set the “Image Alignment” of the “Genesis-Featured Page” to the “right”. This enables the reader to see the text more so than the images when screen resolutions/monitor widths are minimized/not wide.

Also, I’ve made use of the “Genesis – Page Navigation Menu” in the header. And the results are great! Four of my “introductory” pages – Acknowledgement, Forword,  Introduction and Preface are now aligned “right” and underneath the “Custom Header! I tried adding the “Genesis – Category Navigation Menu” but the “Custom Header” is too dark for the links.

  • Date created…

Whoo-hoo! I’ve discovered something else with short code! My time-date stamp! I’ve created a Text widget with two shortcodes for the Primary sidebar: It’s called “Date created”. But the shortcodes are unique and theme dependent. I only know seven shortcodes for this theme.

And here are my sample shortcodes:

    • Posted on [post_date] at [post_time] by [post_author_posts_link]
    • [post_categories] [post_tags]
    • [post_comments] [post_edit]

One day, I’m hoping for a “last revision date” shortcode for this “Premium Theme” – Minimum. So if anyone knows, let me know! Bahahaha! Me smart! Yes!

    Theme Stats - 144th
While reading and “borrowing” sample ideas from the “Theme Showcase – Minimum” a couple of hours or so ago, I noticed something on the right-hand column under the header of Theme Stats:

    • Our 144th most popular theme

Notice the number 144! It has the double-digit number four. Also, that number means something special to “Dawn”. She has this number all over her blog.

  • Widgets mania…

I’m still up late at night and tweaking my new “Premium Theme”. Should I love it? Maybe and after reviewing the other paid themes, this one will do for now until I get either dis-satisfied or bored, whichever comes first. If only I could download my archives in a readable format, such as .pdf, then maybe I’d be REALLY happy. Nah. I’m somewhat content.

The “widgets.php” has nine places for my widgets. Here are my widgets thus far:

    • Header Right – This is the right side of the header.
    • Search
    • Text: Follow me.
  • Primary Sidebar – This is the primary sidebar if you are using a 2 or 3 column site layout option.

I love the “Theme Options” (or Genesis – Theme Settings via “themes.php?page=genesis”). It’s got five sections:

    Default Layout

    • Content-Sidebar
    • Sidebar-Content
    • Content-Sidebar-Sidebar
    • Sidebar-Sidebar-Content
    • Sidebar-Content-Sidebar
    • Full Width Content

    Navigation Settings

    • Primary Navigation
    • Include Primary Navigation Menu?
    • Enable Fancy Dropdowns?
    • Enable Extras on Right Side?
    • Display the following:
    • Today’s Date
    • RSS feed links
    • Search form
    • Twitter link
  • Secondary Navigation
  • In order to use the navigation menus, you must build a custom menu, then assign it to the proper Menu Location.

  • Can’t add media…

I was trying to “Add an Image” and this “nasty” message popped-up on my Dashboard:

“We’re sorry, file uploads are temporarily disabled. We’ll have this feature back online as soon as we’re done with a couple of tweaks. Hang in there, we’re almost finished!”

I need my service back, now before my writer’s block stops me from creating, here!

  • 20110831-Trying Theme

Well, I’m trying yet another WordPress.com theme:

    Selecta by Obox Design

With a featured posts slider on the front page, a wide, one-column template on image and video posts, and archives displayed in gallery format, Selecta is well-suited for blogs which focus primarily on showcasing videos or images. It comes with six color schemes, support for video, image, aside, gallery, quote, chat, and audio post formats, custom header, custom background, and four widget areas — one in the left sidebar and three in the footer. It’s good for now.
