  • Trying Premium Theme: Crisp

I’m trying yet another paid/Premium theme for $60.

  • Trying Theme: Grisaille

I am just now trying the newest WordPress.com “free” theme:

    Grisaille by Nudge design

A classic two-column design adjusted for mobile browsing. Both featured images and Sticky posts are supported. Twitter, Facebook, and Google Plus Theme Options available, as well as custom menus, header image, and background. It’s pronounced “griz-eye”. Read more about Grisaille →

Here is my quick summary of my “findings”:

    Pros

    • Infinite scrolling
    • See-thru background
    • Responsive layout
    • Use of the “Excerpt” field instead of showing the “more” tag version but will use both features in case I change my mind AGAIN!
    • Big/readable letters/fonts
    • Mobile version shows my “Excerpts” (forcing readership to decrease/increase on clicks of boring posts.) Bahaha!
    • Bigger fonts for listed <li> elements via “Visual” tab under “Edit Post” page.

    Cons

    • No time-date stamp from archive/search/index/single post.
    • No “Post Formats” supported, like “Sans Kloud” with its icons to designate the typs of post formats.
  • God is dead…

    topherchris:

I tweaked this because I enjoy tweaking New York Post headlines.

    or… “LONG – LIVE EVIL”!

  • Trying Theme: Sunspot

    Sunspot
    Theme: Sunspot by Automattic.

Okay, fine! Since earth’s communication system wasn’t horribly affected by today’s/yesterday’s sunspot/solar flare, I’m trying:

    Sunspot by Automattic

A sharp theme with subtle grid lines and sun-splashed accents, Sunspot is a great all-purpose blogging canvas, especially for those who prefer a dark color scheme. Sunspot offers two arrangements for posts on the front page. Additional features include a custom header and a custom background, two optional widget areas, and a responsive layout that adapts gracefully to smaller screen sizes. Read more about Sunspot →

Hopefully, I’ll get a “five star” just for “trying this theme”, unlike a “one star” for a paid Premium Theme: Debut, which I really like (so far).

Anyway, I had to change the “Site Title” to Rants and Stuff and the “Tagline” to “by Flynn” because the navigation bar is vertical, instead of the normal (ahem!) horizontal position (ahem!) on top of the weblog.

Yes, I prefer the darker color scheme, which makes reading easier due to my sensitive, owl-like eyes from blogging too much in front of my BRIGHT monitor!

I don’t think this “Sunspot” theme supports “Post Formats”, which really do nothing significant but highlight the blog entries bigger fonts and such.

Again, I’ll get bored and keep switching FREE themes here at WordPress.com until I come up with something fancy to my liking.

  • Trying Theme: Retro-fitted

Since the “Infinite Scroll” was implemented for both Twenty-Ten and Twenty-Eleven, I took that as a sign to try new themes! So this time it is:

    “Retro-fitted by Justin Tadlock

Subtle textures are mixed with clean lines and shadows to create a beautifully balanced composition perfect for all types of blogs. Read more about Retro-fitted →

I like this theme because the muted colors of red, white, blue and beige are easy on the eyes and similar to the colors in the “Luscious” theme. The “Georgia” fonts are normal and easy to read with bold bold titles and headers and are balanced appropriately for the contents and the sidebar, where widgets are boxed separately to give emphasis to each it. The unlisted order is indented and spaced nicely and are set off with square boxes. Of course, I get to see my time-stamp, located to the right of the author’s name.

  • Trying Theme: Suburbia

As a personal protest to a recent feature (called an “infinite scroll”) added on two WP.com themes (Twenty-Ten and Twenty-Eleven), I’ve switched theme! That’s right! This time I’m trying:

    Suburbia by WPShower

Suburbia is a unique magazine theme in a minimalistic style. Designed by WPShower. It features five widget areas, custom header, and custom background. Read more about Suburbia →

It’s worse than my previous WordPress.com theme: Twenty-Eleven. With Suburbia, readers are FORCED to click on the post, which is viewed an “excerpt” from the “front/home” page. Further, there are only four widgets on the bottom bars to keep the page free of “clutter”. In this way, readers are FORCED to focus on boring links. The “primary” sidebar only has three widgets: Search, Gravatar and Meta. The only compromise is my time stamp, which is missing. So I’ll keep looking for my ideal WordPress.com theme.

  • Trying Premium Theme: Luscious

Prior to midnight, I purchased a $45.00 Premium Theme. I like it because it’s got my Genesis stuff and mostly pink colors. That’s all until 30 days for a full refund (if NOT completely satisfied). I can NOT improve my personal blog other than to change it’s layout and appearance. The content is as my new tagline says: “Mostly Rants and Other Stuff”.

    Luscious by StudioPress

Luscious is super-clean, lip-smacking theme designed for bloggers and publishers who want to frame their work in professional fashion. Read more about Luscious →

  • Trying Theme: Bouquet

This time I trying a new WordPress.com theme:

    Bouquet by Automattic

Bouquet is an elegant, simple theme inspired by the beauty found in flowers. Notable features include two floral schemes, a responsive layout structure that adapts to smaller devices, a right sidebar, a full-width template, support for post formats, custom background, and custom header. Read more about Bouquet →

Tags: blog, craft, journal, nature, outdoors, photoblogging, photography, clean, curved, earthy, flowery, natural, outdoorsy, simple, sophisticated, blue, pink, white, light, one-column, two-columns, right-sidebar, responsive-width, custom-background, custom-header, custom-menu, full-width-template, post-formats, rtl-language-support, translation-ready

There are two theme options of flowery header images: Pink Dogwood a default in pink and Forget-Me-Not in blue. There is only one sidebar widget, which I won’t use for now because my “Hello Word” page, which is a “Sticky Post” will serve as the “Table of Contents” or a “Sitemap” and provides the “Archives” and “Subscription” links, too. Only five of the most recent posts are displayed. The width of the contents auto-fits for smaller screen resolutions, which reveals a time-stamp from the hover over the date.

  • 20111104-Tweaking Again

First, please delete your email inbox of my old blog entires. I was retagging old posts and editing the status from Private to Publish. That’s all.

Second, I decided to keep everything in my primary weblog site, except the Plinky prompts and Daily Posts. So that means my dreams, prayers and other rants are still here, including the Comments.

All the exported/imported posts have been either “Deleted Permanently” or “Move to Trash”. I keep forgetting to press the “Empty Trash” button feature.

As a result, two of my four weblog sites are currently set to “Private” until I figure out what to do with those sites.

  • 20111103-Tweaking Again

Well, I’ve been tweaking my “Hello World!” and “About” pages and deleted more pages from the LWO weblog site. The import didn’t work; so that’s a sign that I better leave that site as is — informational.

Earlier, I cleaned up more categories and tags. And about one half hour ago, I didn’t realize my primary weblog site was set to “Private”!

I’m not quite finished “tweaking” my weblog. I really want to reduce the LARGE posts under this primary site and dump/export some to the LWO site. But it doesn’t work.

So most of the posts here are rants. Maybe I should reword ALL posts and force each topic to fit one category.

  • 20111023-Tweaking Again

About one or two hours ago, I’ve been tweaking my blog again. This time, my blogroll/links widget shows four menus: dorkboy, information, messiahmews and orgone. I figured the rest are my personal businesses and the blogroll/links are good to share SMALL businesses and other blogs.

As for the Ephemera section, I can’t figure it out. And after I’ve tested/updated the Categories, I found that the feeds and/or emails are being sent out for each minor edits! Blogging like this is messing up my experience.
