  • After the Deadline message…

A few minutes ago, I was trying to update a “Private” page on my other registered WordPress.com weblog. And I saw the following message pop-up:

“There was a problem communicating with the After the Deadline service. Try again in one minute.”

A black exclamation mark is within a white background and enclosed by a triangle with red perimeter.

  • Have you ever had to fire someone?

Nope. I would imagine it would be easier to let someone go when there is justified reason, such as budget crisis. It would be harder to fire someone based on insubordination (which is intentional prejudice, trust me on this one) and merit. I think I would build up the files/documentations, discuss the matter with the superiors with BROKEN English, seek advice from a married sucker, err, gullible mentor who speaks good English and use his knowledge to climb the ladder of success as a manager in a information technology job off First Street and have human resources fire that person.

Have you ever had to fire someone? Was it easier or harder than you expected? If you never have, how do you think you’d handle it?

  • 20111022-Trying Theme

Tonight and for $55.00 (a double-digit numerical value), I purchased a Premium Theme! That’s right! I’ve got 30 days to try out my new WordPress theme.

The layout of this theme is VERY simple. And this time I like reading SMALLER fonts. I noticed LARGER fonts make reading MUCH slower. More spaces in between lines/paragraphs and contents/sidebars tend to distract me.

The meta data  underneath the post title: “Written on [datetime stamp] by [author]” section for the ONE and ONLY excerpt found on the “index/front/home” page, followed by links for Edit, Categories, Tags and Comments section for the “single view” page.

The content is to the left of the sidebar widget. Five of my main/parent pages fit VERY nicely on the top navigation bar. But the “Site Title” feels too bulky for the small box on the upper right hand corner and on the lower left hand section of the footer. The “Search” form is located on the upper right hand corner.

The footer has the “Tagline” and default fields for RSS Posts and RSS Comments. Credit for the theme designer is given as usual here.

The most recent post entry is shown as an excerpt. The same goes for “Sticky Posts”. “Rate This” is shown on this excerpt.

“Recent Entries” show only the Post title; the meta and comments. “Recent Entries” can be changed via the “Reading Settings” of the Dashboard. A maximum of five “Recent Comments” is shown as excerpts.

  • Talent good…

Last night, we saw Cain singing from an old 1991 video. So while some politicians have the gift of gab or were born with a silver soon in their mouths, surely there are other skills, talent, and abilities a potential POTUS could possibly possess and inspire others to find their best assets.

  • 20111016-Tweaking Again

I’ve switched WordPress.com themes after discovering a “Page Style” in the Firefox internet browser. I could toggle selections between “Basic Page Style” to “No Style” to copy/paste data into a downloadable format (i.e. .doc, .txt, .pdf, etc). And this is for archiving purposes of which I have submitted a Support request.

Again, I want a free/paid theme with control over the hardcodes at least to have the date/time stamps for original post and updated version and the author, just like Almost Sprint, Dusk and Quintin. I really don’t care about the category and tags. Those can be “hidden” in the background, just like a theme option found in the iNove theme.

As for the Ratings Setup, I removed those from the Posts, Pages and Comments. There was really at least one blogger using this feature. He gave me “five stars” each time. And recently I’ve gotten two posts with “one star”. It doesn’t tell me much as to WHY such ratings are provided by readers.

As for the Share Settings, only three buttons  are shown only in “Front Page, Archive Pages, and Search Results“: Email, Print and Press This. I wanted the single post view to be free of clutter for archiving purposes.

As for blogging, I want to stop blogging via WordPress for Android. Its features are limited. And I want to discontinue my cellphone service because it is a waste of money. If there is an emergency, that’s okay. No one cares to call and I don’t care to call. So it works both ways.

  • Inactive sidebar…

So I’m cleaning up my other registered WordPress.com blog and met the following message:

    Inactive Sidebar (from previous theme)

This is a left over sidebar from an old theme and does not show anywhere on your site

It was a an old RSS Links widget with Large, Orange Texts & Image Links for both Posts & Comments. And after I deleted that widget and refreshed that webpage, this middle section disappeared altogether!

  • Taking America…

For a while, my thought has been about how America is being taken over by TPTB and pals. They got the banks, autos, health and now jobs. I wonder what else will be taken away and where it all go. I wonder if America is/has been re-written.

  • Dashboard burping…

What’s going on with my WordPress.com dashboard! It looks funny! For the past few minutes, it jumped around and items were complete expanded horizontally and vertically, too. Can you please design the Dashboard so that it user friendly for SLOWER internet connections AND personal computers?

  • Inflating value…

My late Auntie Hely has a profound sickness in flourishing her stories. For example, if she gave only $20, she would brag to unwitting listeners that she gave $200. The same goes to the banana nutter lady who tells her local parishioners that she gives $500 every week to the coffers but actually was caught giving $5 by an usher.

As for my random thought this morning during mass, I don’t think the pyramids are 12,000 years old but only 1,200 years. How else are these structures and other antiqities still intact? My calculations were done merely by removing an extra zero from the alleged stories by the “professionals” and their outmoded “scientific” devices for measuring artifacts and other “educated guesses”.

  • 20111010-Trying Theme

For the longest time, I really like this one WordPress.com Theme: The Journalist 1.3 by Lucian Marin. But I never really used it.

“The Journalist is a smart, minimal theme designed for professional journalists.”

Here are few things about this theme:

    • Has normal-Georgia serif looking fonts.
    • Has black bar to set off the post title above and contents below.
    • Handles un/order lists and quotes nicely.
    • Lacks tagline, time stamp, top nav, templates for Links and Archives.
  • 20111009-Trying Theme

Ack! I been switching themes again! One theme — Twenty-Eleven alsmot had all my elements. But it lacked two templates for “Archives” and “Links”. Plus, I needed the index page to my posts to reflect the meta data, meaning a text of the time/date stamp, which could be found in a “Sandbox” theme. So my current theme has taken on a nice purple color — dark purple for the header and light pink for the background. I guess I should be happy for now. 🙁 🙂

  • 20111009-Tweaking Again

I’ve finished tweaking my “front/home” page, which used to be the “contents” page, now renamed “page” properly. Fourteen pages are now linked on the front page. Linking the “page” to itself as the fifteenth page doesn’t make sense. There are currently fifteen (15) static pages.

I had to shorten each sentence of the main links to fit the narrow width of certain WordPress.com themes, which I keep switching. I found that I needed both templates for Archives and Links. That frees up the bottom/side bar from clutter. Plus I can “track” through my blog stats if these pages are being viewed.

All the extra pages are now grand/children of the About page. The other parent pages are found as part of the main menu: POSTS, PAGES, LINKS,  and ARCHIVES, which are capitalized, just to differentiate them from the About page.

There are currently seven widgets in the sidebar. I’ve gotten tired of reading through all the links and decided to reduce the clutter to a more manageable size. Plus it much easier to read, too. My motto: “Simple is better. Bigger is not better.”
