  • EAS tested…

On 11/08/2011 at 9:11am local time, the EAS made its long tone and announcement. We were listening to “El Rushbeau” on our local radio station 560AM KSFO. The test was annoying because his voice faded out into the background and we could’t hear/missed whatever he wanted to say/share.

  • .pdf photos…

So I’m testing the upload of 37 photos from 1968 in another WordPress.com account of mine. This account is currently set to private mode. What I noticed is that the upload went SUPER fast!

HOWEVER, the attachment is a link, which can be downloaded and saved on someone else’s computer!!! I don’t like that. I wanted the public to view the attachement in its entirety without saving the file to the computer!!!

If the Matt meister and pals can come up with a work around on this bane, I sure would like to know how to “lock” the image from being copied elsewhere!!! Bah!

The export of documents to .pdf via the NeatReceipts scanner went in the correct order. I would first have to sort the “Document Title” in descending order. But I find that I would have to rotate each side (front and back) in proper view.

  • Scanning old photos…

So I’ve finished scanning 37 photos from 1968 and 57 photos from 1969. Those are my birth, baptism, and first birthdays. Other photos show me getting my first bath, dancing in my crib, crying in my stroller, swinging in the park and showing off how I could turn on the television and pull out the green-colored metal chairs. I still remember the furnishings and the birthday cake. I usually stick out my tongue.

I used the NeatReceipts scanners to capture double sides: the front showing the photo and its caption on the bottom (handwritten by Paw) and the back showing Paw’s handwriting to describe the event of that particular photographic moment. The only work around in uploading the files is to purchase and upgrade and then to upload the files as .pdf format! The NeatReceipts scanner doesn’t offer exporting to .jpg files, for example.

  • Hiding photostream…

I’ve NOT deleted my Flickr.com account. Rather, I went through each “set” and “changed permission” so that “only me” could see my precious photos. My upgrade has already expired this month and I don’t plan on renewing it. I believe the links to each Flickr photo is no good; therefore, the images posted via this weblog site won’t be seen. I really do NOT see how I could possibly benefit from posting my personal information online for publication, really.

    Think about it.

  • 20110415-Donating Away

Well, I found some old picture frames — either metallic or wooden, hanging or standing, from one wooden cabinet and in another hexagon-shaped cabinet I see some old piano/guitar books and sheet music! I feel like throwing all those away! But I cannot seem to throw away one memento from a former piano teacher. In this one book she wrote the following on the inside front cover:

    Oct 1, 1976

    Dear Fxxxxxx,

    I have enjoyed teaching you.
Indeed – it was a pleasure.
Go on! Continue! You have the
    gift not given to all.
    Sight read this book.
Wish to hear you sometime again.
    Good luck —

    Always,

This morning Maw had exclaimed: “Oh! Look! My green onions are growing!”

And indeed, I see the green shoots bending towards the sunlight from two of their brick-colored, circular-shaped containers outdoors in the backyard and underneath the open patio.

“Paw! Please stop eating those onions! Your breath stinks.” I hollered as he sat down to put on his shoes at the base of the stairs. His breath has been stinking lately because of this aromatic greenery.

I thought to myself and then outloud to Maw: “Hey! I want “arroz caldo” for tonight’s dinner! Maybe you can garnish the chicken porridge dish with your green onions.”

Below is an image showing almost EXACTLY how Maw’s porridge would look like:

    Congee
    Filipino Arroz Caldo – Lugaw

Lúgaw (alternately spelled “lugao” or “lugau”) is the Filipino name for congee. Otherwise similar to Cantonese-style congee, lúgaw is typically thicker, retaining the shape of the rice but with a similar texture.

If I had to eat a particular Philippine Cuisine with anyone, it would be:

One is arroz caldo which is a rice porridge cooked with chicken, ginger and sometimes saffron, garnished with spring onions (chives), toasted garlic, and coconut milk to make a type of gruel. Another variant is goto which is an arroz caldo made with ox tripe.

Topic #55: If you could have anything to eat right now, what would it be? Bonuses: 1) Assume price is no object. 2) If you could eat this food with anyone alive or who has ever lived, who would it be? 3) Find and share a photo of what you’d like to eat or the person from #2.

  • Early Morning Mass – Day Nine

Other than the unusual aerial activities of chemtrails this morning, the three of us attended the last of nine days of Simbang Gabi. Three “Fil-Am Vets” accompanied our choir with their rondallas.  The initial tuning of their rondallas was made possible with the keyboard, an AI of precise audio technology. This morning’s priest appeared gay too but VERY haughty in his mass from singing louder than the choir through the mic to speaking English in a thick but fake Western accent. He was an annoying spook.

The reception went well as we ate the food of adobo rice, chocolate rice pudding, oranges, and scrambled eggs with sliced hot dogs and drank either hot coffee and/or tea. We helped place the folding chairs in rows for another event later on. I, unfortunately, was wearing high heels but managed to control the pain more recently during this summer.

We met one of the choir member, Carl, who is from “Cebu”. He has a son who performs well on guitar and accompanies the choir. The son looks like an “alien” with his wrap-around eyes. He is darker than his father who is quite handsome and lighter-skinned. I don’t get it with Pinoys – they either look like moi, a Chinoy, of all sorts, or monkeys.

  • Early Morning Mass – Day Seven

We awoke early again for the 6:00am morning mass of “Simbang Gabi”. I was and still am feeling groggy even though I went to sleep around 11:00pm.

The mass was held by an obvious GAY priest. Maw pointed that out to me and I was digusted at the sight with his voice inflection and hand gestures, especially when he fingered the “crumbs of bread” into the cup of “wine” in a particular motion. Sorry, folks! F&gg@ts are gross! No wonder the Catholics are getting a bad rap with abuses from pedophiles! Some work as predators from within that religious organization.

The “Fil-Am Vets” played popular Filipino, American and Christmas music on their rondallas at the reception, which had served cold food of pancit noodles, mini-pandisal, sliced pieces of ham, macaroni salad with pineapple, fruits of orange cataloupe, green melons and red watermelons, and hot drink of coffee and tea.

I went to work early as usual.

  • Early Morning Mass – Day Six

We missed the fourth and fifth early morning masses for “Simbang Gabi”. Today, we heard the “5pm Youth Choir” perform. Little Claire was there to sing. They were VERY good with harmonies and played instruments well, such as keyboard and guitars. The microphone system made a few howling noises, drowning out their beautiful voices.

The reception had the normal food of egg sandwiches (my favorite), fresh-cut, wedges of oranges, cookes, porridge (of chicken and vegetables) and of either coffee and tea for drinks. The surprise today was a performance by the “Fil-Am Vets Rondolla”. One guy did a medley for Filipino musics – traditional and a few Christmas. Maw donated some money and we got a CD of ten of their musics.

This time we didn’t have to put away the tables and chairs. I went to work early again for the third time this year because I’m wide awake.
