  • 20080109-Playing Piano

After breakfast, I’ve been recording my playing piano on my Kimball via the digital camera the whole morning and had trouble finding a tall enough prop for the camera, which sat on an upside down remote control caddy, on top of Maw’s column-shaped, plant holder and with a yellow rubber glove to keep this ‘expensive’ electronic device from slipping to the wooden floor.

I couldn’t figure out how to modify the play time and kept using the stupid Windows Movie Maker unsuccessfully because YouTube.com didn’t recognize this .mswmm format. I tried ‘reinstalling’ the program that will allow me to edit the movies taken from my digital camera. And that worked for awhile until I couldn’t make the text of the lyrics appear at the right time for each measure.

As a result and out of frustration, I included the lyrics in the description field in YouTube.com below for the following Mexican folk song: Mi Hamaca (My Hammock).

    Here are the lyrics:

    Yo tengo
    mi hamaca tendida,
    Junto
    a la orilla del mar.
    Y mi
    cabana escondida
    en medio
    de uncafetal.

    [Refrain]

    Sombra me da el bosque,
    Brisa me da el mar,
    Besos mi morena,
    Que bel llo es amar.

    Como golondrina,
    Que volado va.
    Cual mece mi hamaca tendida
    de aqui para alla
    de alla para aca!

    English translation:

I hung my hammock near the sea,
My cabana is hidden by the trees on shore.
I am kissed by my love,
With kisses like swallows in flight,
And my hammock swings gently to and fro.

This next Mexican folk song is called: El Cefrio (The Breeze) and this one had the lyrics scrolling upwards from the bottom center of the video are included below, too.

    Here are the lyrics:

    Blancos jamines
    catos de aves,
    Rumor de besos,
    lle vale tu.
    Mas no le digas
    lo que ya sabes,
    La noche es negra,
    la noche es negra
    la tarde azul.

    English translation:

    Soft breeze at twilight,
    Gathering the fragrance of flowers,
Take the perfume to my loved one,
But do not tell her I grieve.

Now this video is a popular one of two from the same era that I managed to record, edit and upload. But this one had three long verses that I didn’t bother posting it on YouTube. It’s called: I Will Wait For You.

I’m waiting until my bio-units are finished watching television nearby without distracting another recording that mysteriously didn’t make the cut for today. Recording and editing videos take a long time and it’s a pain in the butt, literally because I’ve been sitting at this computer the whole day.

The day is cloudy gray with off and on rain (just like yesterday but not two days ago which was slightly sunny). It’s been freezing these past few days and I hardly venture outdoors to avoid catching cold.

There are lots to learn in front of the computer. I really should start looking for work but that’s another pending plan.

  • 20080101-Warrior’s Parades

Tuesday, 01/01/2008 was the first day of the new year. Besides my previous entry about an afternoon rant, I’ve enjoyed watching the New Year’s parade briefly in the morning on televised cable programming. The marching bands were by far the most entertaining with the United States Marine Band being the best — perfect formation and always in tune.

They were playing their official hymn: ‘Marine’s Hymn’. Below are the lyrics:

    From the halls of Montezuma
    To the shores of Tripoli,
    We fight our country’s battles
In the air, on land, and sea.
First to fight for right and freedom,
And to keep our honor clean,
We are proud to claim the title
    Of United States Marines.

Our flag’s unfurl’d to every breeze
    From the dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun.
In the snow of far-off northern lands
    And in sunny tropic scenes,
You will find us always on the job
    The United States Marines.

Here’s health to you and to our Corps
    Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we’ve fought for life
And have never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy
    Ever look on Heaven’s scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded
    By United States Marines.

For a very brief history behind Tripoli, the pirates and mercenary were defeated by the US warships. And this was all for not traded well with the might of a powerful nation like the US by the Beys who finally stopped attacking US ships. As for the Montezuma arena and the power of sails alone, US also won a sea battle against steam powered vessels in the Yucatan area.

In the worldwide news, there appears to be more nuclear power in the hands of other countries in the Middle East — a threat to the mighty war machine of the United States. But I believe based on previous history, the United States (for whatever reason unknown to me personally) is holding out its ability to control the whole world with its technological knowledge of nuclear arms.

  • 20071031-Rumbling Thoughts

Angered thoughts of death and dying
    Destroy the noisy elder Maw
    Inner struggle, silent crying
    Annoy her patient elder Paw

    I don’t care anymore.
    Nothing matters at all.
    I am nothing to you.
    Nothing is left for hate.
    I am finished with love.
    Nothing is in my way.

Upstairs shower as my last straw
Eyes closed shut through mental sighing
Head held high and thoughts sent flying
    Heartfelt energy in the raw

    Back to the shower head
    Heard low rumbling of dread
    Felt a large truck coming?
    Earth shaking, ground numbing
    The back and forth motion
Up and down waves — ocean

‘Huwag mag galit ang Dios kasi ay mainit ang ulo nya.
Merong araw sa iyong lahat! Ito pag labasin insang lindol…’

Translation of couplet (last two lines of poetry) from Tagalog to English:

‘Don’t anger ‘God’ because her/my hot-headed temper has manifested in anger.
There is one day for everyone! This one manifested as an earthquake…’

Author’s note: First attempt at La’libertas‘ poem of 4-6-4-6-2 form.

Originally created on Sunday, November 04, 2007 8:51:41 PM about an earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitude on 2007-10-31 03:04:54GMT and located 8 kilometers (or 5 miles) NNE of Alum Rock, CA with coordinates of 37.432 -121.7769 9.2 per USGS website.

Of course, I was very angry again at Maw a few minutes prior to taking a shower upstairs when the earthquake occurred.

  • 20070905-Cooking Tale

A shortened parody based on the lyrics of ‘You Are My Sunshine’.

    Another light beer
    A late night creeping
I screamed and yelled at your cooking charms.
    When I smelled smoke here
    I felt forsaken
As you wrung the bread and fried.

    Chorus:
    You are my bunny —
    My honey bunny
    You keep me hopping
    When guys are ‘gay’.
    You never show ‘queer’
    At rabbit steak stew.
Please don’t make a bunny buffet.

Author’s note: Oh boy! No offense to any particular ‘group’ but really this is about the horror of not knowing how to ‘cook’ for your guy (wink). Actually love the ‘official’ song sung by Maw from my childhood during the days when Paw was out to sea for nine months at a time.

  • 20070903-Fairly Balanced

Another parody based on the lyrics of ‘You Are The Sunshine Of My Life’.

You are the Vessel of my Light
Supplying Love by leaps and bound
You are my Keeper that won’t lie
    Forever Blocking out the Dark

I know our worlds will stop this sinning
Though I’ve cried for You my happy tears
And when my thought of Love is pending
My mind will always wish away Your fears

You are the Vessel of my Light
Supplying Love by leaps and bound
You are my Keeper that won’t lie
    Forever Blocking out the Dark

You must have been my One and Only!
Because You welcomed my ‘Thank You’!
And I know that You’re with me again!
My Love for You is like a dream come true!

You are the Vessel of my Light
Supplying Love by leaps and bound
You are my Keeper that won’t lie
    Forever Blocking out the Dark

    [Background]
    Hallelujah!
    Hallelujah!
    Holy! Holy!

  • 20070825-Paper Tigers

Another financial parody based on the lyrics of ‘Paper Roses’.

The real lies the day your guise aggrieved me.
With lenders, crooks and agents booked thereof.
So squirrel away the monies that you sold me
And spend the find that lined one’s pocket glove.

    Paper tigers, paper tigers —
Oh, how surreal those tigers guarantee!
    Rides of market fluctuations
Fear and trepidations, far from free.

I thought that you were working under cover.
You seemed to pull down money with your charts.
But like the instruments they’re made of paper.
There isn’t any monkey throwing darts.

    Paper tigers, paper tigers —
Oh, how surreal those tigers guarantee!
    Rides of market fluctuations
Fear and trepidations, far from free.

Echo: Fear and trepidations, far from free.

  • 20070806-Fallen Bridge

A sad parody based on the lyrics of ‘Autumn Leaves’.

    The fallen bridge of Minnesota
The concrete slabs of steel, wood mold
I see the smokes of brown, white hisses
The earthquake sounds before the fold

What they did that day, nothing seemed wrong
I hear the hum, vibrating strong
Low and silent frequency – die snarling
When August bridge starts to fall

  • 20070802-Dreaded Departure

    Guitar:
Love, I must go. I am leaving.
    Living a lie everyday, dear.
Please don’t be sad, stop your grieving [for me].
[My] dear, I’ll survive without fear.
[Oh], tell the truth. Do you love me?
[Oh], let me know. Who are you — [pride]?
Run! Far away! Don’t look back! Free [from me].
[And] Gone are the days by your side.

    Piano:
Come back to me. I am dying.
Pining away for your love, too.
Lost all my hopes, gave up trying [alone].
[Oh!] Dear, all my love is for you.
Here in your arms, I am sleeping.
Close to your heart, from the inside.
Death! Set us free, no more weeping [goodbye].
[And] Gone are the days by your side.

Another long-head attempt at canzonetta lyrics in ababcdcD, efefgdgD pattern.

Author’s note: Based on an instrumental song entitled ‘Departure’ from ‘Rurouni Kenshin – Original Soundtrack 2 — Departure’ by Taro Iwashiro 1996.

  • 20050708-Brotherly Shake

    https://flynnspaws.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/20050708-obasanjo-and-bush1.jpg
    Obosanjo and Bush shaking hands

A parody based on: 1) the lyrics of ‘The Candy Man’ by a film originally released on 1971, ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’; 2) my imagination regarding the results of chocolate after eaten and; 3) the embossed photo in gray color of two men shaking hands. (Original photo no longer exists in a government website).

    Who are these two allies:
    Holding hands like glue
    Cousins of the golden plates
    And a granny-mom or ‘Crew’?

The puppet clan? [Echo: The puppet clan?]
The puppet clan’s plan! [Echo: The puppet clan’s plan!]
    The puppet clan’s plan:-
    Laws he fixes without love
and takes us as their food.

    Who are these two fellows:-
    Worship the sun’s flair
    We meet upon the Level
And we part upon the Square.

The puppet clan? [Echo: The puppet clan?]
The puppet clan’s plan! [Echo: The puppet clan’s plan!]
    The puppet clan’s plan:-
    Laws he fixes without love
and takes us as their food.

They shake whatever is at stake:-
    Underlying and malicious
    Speech of warring repetitious
    You are always superstitious.

Who can take our sorrow: –
    Whip us to a scream
    Pro-create and borrow and
    infect us with their scheme?

The puppet clan? [Echo: The puppet clan?]
The puppet clan’s plan! [Echo: The puppet clan’s plan!]
    The puppet clan’s plan:-
    Laws he fixes without love
and takes us as their food.

And sells us as their food
‘Oz’, the puppet clan drinks it would.

  • 20070622-Posting Queen

A parody based on the lyrics of ‘Dancing Queen’ by ABBA © 1976 and in memory of Fluffy von der Flynn’s last day at work.

You can post, you can thrive, having no climb from your strife
See that pearl, watch that screen, pigging the posting queen

Friday plight and the work is slow
Searching jobs for a case to show,
Where they pay the right hand-pick, fitting to her cling
You thumb in to hook for a fling.

    Anybody could see that fly
Plight is stung and the paycheck’s dry
With a hit of SOX mouse click, everything is mine
You’re their food as a host.
And then you’re like a ghost.

You are the posting queen, hung and beat, only leaven keen
Posting queen, seal the seat like a trampoline
You can post, you can thrive, having no climb from your strife
See that pearl, watch that screen, pigging the posting queen

You’re a pleaser. You tell them none.
Leave them waiting then you’re done.
Seeking out each other, noone will sue.

  • 20060924-Nowhere Man

    Song: Nowhere Man
    Artist: The Beatles
    Album: Rubber Soul
    Year: 1965

    He’s a real nowhere man
    Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody

Doesn’t have a point of view
knows not where he’s going to
Isn’t he a bit like you and me?

    Nowhere man please listen
You don’t know what you’re missing
Nowhere man, The world is at your command

He’s as blind as he can be
Just sees what he wants to see
Nowhere man, can you see me at all

    Nowhere man don’t worry
    Take your time, don’t hurry
Leave it all till somebody else Lends you a hand [Ah, la, la, la, la ]

Doesn’t have a point of view
knows not where he’s going to
Isn’t he a bit like you and me?

    Nowhere man please listen
You don’t know what you’re missing
Nowhere man, The world is at your command [Ah, la, la, la, la ]

    He’s a real nowhere man
    Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody

Nothing is my answer. My big brain came up with this answer and I started singing this tune from years ago during choir class in high school. I remember watching the creepy cartoon that showed this ‘silly odd man,’ who looked all green and had a big nose. I do not understand why that character was drawn that way.

  • 20060808-White Flower

    Music: Richard Rodgers
    Lyrics: Oscar Hammerstein
Musical: “The Sound of Music” 1965

    Edelweiss, Edelweiss
    Every morning you greet me
    Small and white,
    clean and bright
You look happy to meet me.
    Blossom of snow
    may you bloom and grow,
    Bloom and grow forever.
    Edelweiss, Edelweiss
    Bless my homeland forever.

Author’s note: This song always brings tears to my eyes.
