  • 20101103-Tweaking Again

    Okay, folks! I’m sorry! I’m nuts. I’ve switched WordPress.com themes again. This time is back to “Kubrick” the emeritus theme of WordPress.com.

    I like it because it’s already a narrow, one-column theme. The templates for “Archives” and “Links” are cleaner. The only tweak I’ve done with my paid CSS upgrade is to change the text alignment from “justify” to “left for both the “post” and “comment” elements and line up the “header” above with the “content” below by two pixels.

    Other than that, I couldn’t get one “Text widget” to work. Each time I tried to edit a blank “text widget”, an old data was inside. So I took a hint from the WordPress.com team and created a second “Sticky post” titled “DST disabled”, which is located right below my first “Sticky post” titled “Howdy!” – an ole to the Matt meister, who once dressed up in a cowboy outfit from his childhood. Whatever.

    Anyway, when I went to save the “Howdy” post, the YouTube video mysteriously appeared on the bottom of my introduction. My generic quote also appeared mysteriously back below the YouTube video of moi firing a military rifle. Once again, I took this as a hint to put the text above the video below, followed by the generic quote.

    Also, I was trying to see if the “Time Format” will take more text to describe the specific time zone via the “options-general.php”. It did (i.e. as “GMT – 7:00”). But I’ve changed my “Timezone” twice in the past that the extra “custom” information of the “Time Format” field would conflict with the meta data of each post entry, which shows both the old “Daylight” and current “Standard” timezones. So I’m forced to change the “Timezone” for the third time to reduce confusion between PDT and PST in the upcoming DST change for the Pacific Time zones.

    I don’t know how the WordPress.com team could create a work around for those who travel around the world. I’m thinking the Happiness Engineers could create a script that will allow the users to “auto-populate” timezones regardless of when the posts was created “in between” switches of “Timezones”. Hmmm.

  • 20101021-Tweaking Again

    Out of sheer boredom and lack of joy, I’ve switched many WordPress.com themes, only to return to the Fusion theme by digitalnature due to the “front/home page” option of “excerpts” for posts.

    With the “Layout Width” set to “Flexible”, I’ve discovered the versatility of the “Footer Widget Area” and have placed the blogroll “Links”, because this theme does NOT have an “Archives template” for pages.

    A single sidebar is set to the left and I’ve removed the fruity, rainbow colored “header”. The default is basic black and white.

    As a result, I had to tweak two sidebar “Image widgets” to match the overall monotone color of my current weblog. The “Sunboy” image of pinkish is now an eerie silhouette of someone’s head! OMG! I’m freaking out! St. John the Baptist, too, is colorless and less fruity.

  • 20101011-Tweaking Again

    By golly! I think I’m actually happy (temporarily) with the multiple-colored appearance of my WordPress.com weblog, thanks in part to the Custom CSS Upgrade. This time the background colors are pastel for the CSS elements:

    • Light blue for the “post title”;
    • Light yellow for the “comment meta”;
    • Light orange for the “blockquote”‘;
    • Light pink for the “post feedback”; and
    • Light green for the “sidebar h2”.

    The overall gray color minimizes the brightness of the white backgrounds of the “header”, “wrapper”, “content” and “sidebar”.

  • 20101009-Tweaking Again

    See? Look what you’ve done! I made my weblog look like eye candy:

    • Yellow for the “container” and “header”.
    • Pink for the “sidebar”.
    • Purple for the “blog header title”.
    • Lavender for the “header”.
    • Pink for the “body”.

    The default colors are orange for the “search bar” and lime-green for the “sidebar header”.

  • 20101008-Bored Again

    In one hour from 9:00am to 10:00am, I finished today’s scheduling of new products. This means the backlog is pretty much finished. Can I go home now and call it a day? I’m bored again and hate this temp job from hell, seriously! I tried pulling up the other two reports (and double-check their work) but the system won’t allow me.

    Yesterday, I’ve burned out at the end of the day by completing two “families” – an “ARM” (mine) and a “leg” (hers). Each family took about two hours to complete. And with my work speed being especially FAST, I think the twosome will take twice as long! As a result and after four hours or non-stop data entry, my brain, arms and hands stopped completely! I had no energy left to lift a finger.

    The other two temps were relaxed, err, rather “intentionally” distracted by N. Le and Lucas. They know how I work because, well, the place CAN monitor our activities on the computer – when we log on/off, what we are entering and if we work fast or not. Plus, the auditors are always here – daily! They have their own BIG/shared cubicle.

    Anyway, what I did is study the formulas in one of Lucus’ spreadsheet. Two columns were wrong! Those picked up the wrong column from the “master” tab and another wrong column from another worksheet tab. Only my spreadsheet works. I don’t know about the other two temps. They don’t seem to care.

    By using my COMMON SENSE, I tweaked the formulas and that reduced the chances of scheduling “excluded” orders. I should be paid twice for my brain power here! I cannot afford to feed my family on minimum friggin’ wage! Data entry is fun but I’m wasting time waiting for my hand-out from TPTB. Get it, now?

  • 20101003-Tweaking Again

    Bahaha! Like my feed showing each article as a summary, my “front/home” page now shows less than EXCERPTS! It’s sheer torture to “force” readers to “Read more” by clicking on each blog/post/article entry! My purpose was to eliminate long entries and to the focus of my sidebars, which contain blogroll links to orgone vendors and such.

    Thanks to the WordPress.com Custom CSS Upgrade, I’ve made my weblog pretty again. It has Donna’s favorite colors of purple (for the header) and green (for the sidebar headers). As a result, I cannot get the purple as a border around the site because of the hard-coding of the original theme designer. The fonts are basic black against white background for her sake again.

    Sandbox 0.6.1 by Andy Skelton & Scott Allan Wallick

    A theme with powerful, semantic CSS selectors and the ability to add new skins.

    I like this theme because it has the templates for ARCHIVES and LINKS. Other themes have one or the other. Plus, I require my TIME/DATE STAMP to appear on both the “body.home” and “body.single” elements. So I’m keeping this one for awhile until I get bored with the layout. Sheesh!

  • 20100929-Tweaking Again

    I’ve finished tweaking my paid CSS upgrade to the ChaosTheory theme here at WordPress.com:

    • Purple colors!
    • Auto widths!
    • Column monster with two bottom/sidebars and widgets!
    • Custom menus, just the way I like it!
    • Blog/site title and its tagline/description inside header!
    • Meta data with TIME/date stamp underneath Blog/post title (sans author information)!

    That’s all. I should go to sleep now because tomorrow is going to be lots of Q4 allocation, as if I care – NOT!

  • 20100916-Tweaking Again

    It’s sheer madness to be an addicted weblogger and an amateur CSS editor to my paid upgrade! Again, I’ve been switching themes and editing my custom CSS stylesheet. So right now, I’m back to using the The Journalist v1.9 by Lucian E. Marin because of the unique `archive template` featuring archives, categories AND tags! With this theme, I get my preferred TIME stamp as well as the `links template`.

    Based on the Twenty Theme theme stylesheet, I’ve increased the `font size` to 16 pixels and used a simple `font family` of `Georgia` and `Serif`. With the blue-colored background of crispy, clear blue skies above and the white-washed, foam of sea water below, reading will be much brighter and easier, too!

  • 20100905-Tweaking Again

    Besides going nuts over the `best` WordPress.com theme and despite wanting TIME stamps directly underneath the blog titles, I’ve decided to quit – not blogging, but changing themes and keeping `Twenty Ten by the WordPress team`. Why?

    I’ve discovered the customization of the `Menus` and added four more of my sites as part of the `Primary Navigation`. Plus I could ALWAYS changed the URL, Navigation Label and Title Attributes for each `Custom Links`!

    As a result, I’ve edited ALL my pages to be set as its own `Parent (or main) page`. This means the link for each page will be cleaner and immediately follow after the domain name proper.

    I’ve also tweaked my `Living with Orgone` site to have four widgets at the bottom and four sites of the `Primary Navigation` located on top.

  • 20100829-Tweaking Again

    Alright! I’m really using my mind this time! After switching several WordPress.com themes and after viewing and saving the original stylesheet of each theme, I reviewed the Twenty Ten theme by the WordPress team and found my answer at last!

    I was able to increase the `line height` to the `tag cloud` widget! Now I could add as many `tags` to my posts without seeing how the tags are crammed so close together!

    Also, I increased and decreased the widths to the sidebar and the content elements, respectively. This allows for longer Blogroll `links`, `Recent comments` and `tags`, too!

    The calendar width, too, has been stretched 100% to fill up the sidebar.

    Again, it’s better to purchase a paid CSS upgrade so you’ll understand `programming` at its basics and make for a prettier and more presentable weblog here at WordPress.com! Whoot!

  • 20100829-Tweaking Again

    I tried different WordPress.com themes with little satisfaction and decided that the Dusk theme by Beccary, along with the color scheme and font styles of Tarski by Benedict Eastaugh and Chris Sternal-Johnson, would work for now.

    I felt the blue color scheme was too cool and almost watery, if not depressing. Now the site has taken on a brighter and lighter appearance and hopefully the contents are easier to read. The colors are lime greens for the sidebar headers, warm blues and reds for other links, too.

    I was hoping to add a nice background image to the header but wouldn’t know how to make the `auto-fit` element work. The `path.jpg` image from the 2010 them by Automattic matched my `Site title` – The Blogging Path.

  • 20100828-Tweaking Again

    Last night I had to remove two widgets, namely `Categories` and `Tags` – both of which serve the same purpose. Only the `Tags` widget doesn’t have a drop-down menu list; whereas the `Categories` widget allows for hierarchy.

    For the sake of tracking how many posts I have published, I’ll just leave `rant` as a category all by itself. It doesn’t make sense to use the `QuickPost` feature when there is no `category` field to fill out but a `tag` in its place.

    As a result, I was looking around for another WordPress.com theme to use and tweak my paid CSS upgrade. I feel it’s the appearance that is, well, too BORING. I like the `automatic width` adjustment for any screen resolution and/or web page zoom feature.

    I just don’t like sameness.
