House panel approves broadened ISP snooping bill

Internet providers would be forced to keep logs of their customers’ activities for one year–in case police want to review them in the future–under legislation that a U.S. House of Representatives committee approved today.

The 19 to 10 vote represents a victory for conservative Republicans, who made data retention their first major technology initiative after last fall’s elections, and the Justice Department officials who have quietly lobbied for the sweeping new requirements, a development first reported by CNET.

A last-minute rewrite of the bill expands the information that commercial Internet providers are required to store to include customers’ names, addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and temporarily-assigned IP addresses, some committee members suggested. By a 7-16 vote, the panel rejected an amendment that would have clarified that only IP addresses must be stored.

It represents “a data bank of every digital act by every American” that would “let us find out where every single American visited Web sites,” said Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California, who led Democratic opposition to the bill.

Lofgren said the data retention requirements are easily avoided because they only apply to “commercial” providers. Criminals would simply go to libraries or Starbucks coffeehouses and use the Web anonymously, she said, while law-abiding Americans would have their activities recorded.

To make it politically difficult to oppose, proponents of the data retention requirements dubbed the bill the Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act of 2011, even though the mandatory logs would be accessible to police investigating any crime and perhaps attorneys litigating civil disputes in divorce, insurance fraud, and other cases as well.

At night, I usually have time to wind down and get on my personal computer after Maw and Paw keeps me busy throughout the day. Recently, my Comments have been flooded by a “Jr.” I don’t mind the undue attention and daily interaction. But I do mind having peace and quiet without being distracted with this kind of “intelligence gathering” via eager helpfulness and positive feedbacks.

  • In the sun…

I wonder if an “amnesia” device is inside the sun that keeps people from remembering their past and thereby escaping from this prison planet.

  • No G4 internet connection…

Besides Maw dying from edema throughout her body, I died the whole morning because there was no internet connection! We were near the hills and I guessed the cell phone towers were not near that area. At around 5:00 pm, we came home and my connecting to the internet via my cellphone finally worked!

  • Reading scripts…

Back in high school, there was this “fad” that went around: it was called a “script book”, in which the owner of said notebook had each page asking a question. And each “friend” who participated in this harmless information gathering is supposed to answer “honestly” — who they thought was cute, etc…

So yeah, maybe the profiles won’t reveal much are nothing more than “script books” of nonsense. People will post anything. Trust me: it’s all about boosting an already inflated ego. Got sick of what I read: I went here, this what I did, “Look at what I can do!” ~little Stewart on SNL.

  • Strumming cellphone guitar…

I downloaded an Android app earlier and just awoke from my mid-afternoon nap. The wind is blowing cooler and the skies are crispy, clear and blue, with some “lenticular clouds” over the East Bay

So I played a simple tune of “Tom Dooley” with chords of D, G and A7 or A something, I can’t remember. Whatever! No more squooshed finger tips on my left hand.

  • Deleting my old files…

For most of the mid-morning, I was deleting old files from my personal computer at home. These are documents and photos copied and downloaded online. My music and video files are too small and are fine.

I simply do NOT have the time or care in the world to hoard old material that have lost meaning. I’m still not done with archiving old family photos into digital images. Honestly, I just want the past to go away. All my files from blogging have been deleted and are exist under my primaryb weblogb site.

My offsite files are humongous and in case I change my mind those deleted files can be restored. The trick is to RENAME the main folders. That way the old backup won’t be confused with the new, not-yet-archived folders.

  • Business burns…

Y’all are familiar with this one: “Business as usual…”

A couple of days ago, I was thinking of buying the fat bastard a zapper for his wounds. He had told me long ago about his infection(s) in his leg(s). That would probably be from his execessive weight and lack of exercise. Landy said all he does was sit at home ALL DAY and watch television.

During my plan to visit the fat bastard, I was thinking of buying another terminator zapper made out of copper, which has a tendency to burn the skin, like mine: my abdomen got three permanent scars. Thusly he will have already received karma.

Tonight, I was trolling Kenny’s website, read his most recent article and quickly scrolled through the LONG page on his silver terminator. Dennie doesn’t like silver. I wonder why. Long ago another old fart created a zapper with gold. But that piece of crap broke on me.

So am I wasting my money on these fools? Yup! Perhaps, all this may sound like “shocking news” but it is really nothing short of Old Joes trying to sell their latest gadgets, not made with “shark oil”. Get yours while supplies last, you suckers!

Oh as part of competition, that’s how it’s done: clown your opposition and make yours look like it is better than the rest. If that were so, your junk should be free. Am I making myself clear?

  • 20110620-Wall popping sounds

I couldn’t sleep last night from the heat. I tossed and turned and had to awaken to urinate.

There were two wall popping events: 1:25am and 3:27am, located around my mirror area (where Shrimpsei’s nano-orgone HS pyramid buzzes) and above my head, respectively.

Later, I felt and found a purple swelling on the left side of my big left toe nail.

Addendum-Last edited by FLYNN on 20110622 at 06:52:39 AM UTC: While my eyes were closed and my head turned slightly to the right, I saw a light source closed to my “right” field of vision. That’s when I heard the first LOUD wall pop. I then felt a “surge” throughout my body, where upon I head the seconde LOUD wall pop.

  • Appeal to ignorance…

    Here is today’s word:

Argument from ignorance, also known as argumentum ad ignorantiam or “appeal to ignorance”, is a fallacy in informal logic. It asserts that a proposition is true because it has not been proven false (or vice versa)

For example, I believe in “orgone energy”. I also happen to like Pikachu, a Pokemon character from a Japanese animated cartoon series.

Let’s puts it this way: “Orgone energy” sends out “natural bio-electromagnetic energy,” just like “Pikachu” sending out its electrical powers “against” its fellow enemies, other Pokemon characters.

In both instances, there is no evidence that Pikachu operates like “orgone energy”. Therefore, there is no Pikachu or “orgone energy”.

  • New cellphone…

While pooping, I read my bill and it looked like I got a different contract. So I rushed over to the Milpitas branch and then to the Santa Clara branch. Since I had a 30-day guarantee, I traded the EVO for an Epic. I think it’s still an Android.

I got this because of the slide-out keyboard and larger screen. My big thumbs slowed the texting with the EVO. The features are much better, too. I couldn’t downgrade my plan but got credit for the trade-in. Unlike the EVO, this Epic model doesn’t have the electro-static shock.

  • Reducing hammering rocks…

At 4:15 this evening, the divorced nutter was hammering rocks.

Earlier I was setting up my fax machine, a cute one by Sharp, and saw how a large, blue pyramid was shedding its small chips of resin on the floor and near the computer.

I felt that this orgone device would best serve as an extra protection between the kook and us. So I placed it near the door of out shared fence. Hopefully it will push the suckers to move far away!

  • Fax machine works…

After I cancelled my second phone line, I decided to move the fax machine and attach it to the main land line. I then read the operation manual and set up the home owner’s name and phone number .

There were 3 purposes : first was to remove the fax machine from my bedroom into the computer room . that was to make my room much cleaner . second was to have a new phone in the computer room in case there is an incoming phone call . third was to remove the wireless phone from the computer room to mom’s bedroom .

author’s note: this blog entry was entered using the speaker feature on my cellphone .
