So the boy comes over and showed off his new `gag` shirt. On the back and the top read: `I do…` in cursive handwriting. On the front, there were two skeletons of what appears to be dead birds.
The `left bird` over his right chest area is the bride wearing a veal. The opposite is the groom. Both skeletons of the birds are sitting down, facing each other with their feet barely touching each other.
This is s stupid shirt. The girl’s state of mind reflects her attitude towards marriage – dead like two birds but still together and not apart. I asked her right after the wedding, how she felt. She replied:
`The same.`
Right there is the answer of no value system. When Loida and Paul came over to our home long ago from Chicago, the newly wed looked all aglow and happy. Paul had told me about how he felt to be married:
`It feels different.`
His response felt one of honor and blessing. I could see the smile on his face was sincere. And Loida also responded that it’s worth to be married. I saw their photos in Facebook.com. They seemed truly happy.
But that’s only a photo-op like all the other relatives posting their privacy online for everyone to see. Everyone knows each family has skeletons in the closet behind the scene. If you knew about my relatives and what I have been through as STAR WITNESS, they are all egoist nutballs.
The former response felt normal, somewhat dead, like La Santa Muerte – all holy on the outside (as in their wedding) yet symbolizes a closet full of skeletons, like their incompatibility from culture, arts, current events and other Americanized influences.
Mortality and marriage in the shirt means their marriage was doomed from the beginning. That is my interpretation of their relationships. Maw didn’t like it. The girl has got to go. The boy has got to take a hint. It wasn’t a funny shirt, really.
