  • 20090902-Old Theme

    From `Dusk` to `Sandbox`, I’m trying out the `DayDream` theme for free here at WordPress.com. Why?

    • Large `font-family: Georgia, “Book Antiqua”, “Souvenir Lt BT”, “Times New Roman”, serif;`
    • Custom header sporting a UFO cloud.
    • Navigation, menu bar towards the top.
    • Normal blue fonts, white and gray backgrounds.

    All the essential widgets are located on bottom of this one-column theme:

    • pages;
    • archives;
    • categories;
    • calendar;
    • tag cloud;
    • flickr;
    • recent comments;
    • links;
    • blog stats;
    • askimet;
    • and three hard-coded text.

    As a result, major editing for my pages – Content, About and FAQ – had to be done in order to keep the bullet lines from wrapping to the next lines.

  • 20090831-Tweaked Pages

    While waiting for that morning’s mass to begin, I once again flipped through the August 2009 edition of `Living with Christ` and focused my attention to the `Tables of Contents` page. Then my big brain processed many thoughts by my small mind and I came up with a cleaner layout to my `Contents` page.

    • Removed the sentences after each of the three sections and use those words as a `hover` over the links: pages, book and archives.
    • Placed main pages in front of a dash followed by proactive verbs to describe each bullet.
    • Removed the annoying sub-pages and its horizontal row from this page and all others, except the archives page.
    • Created more pages and set some from private to public viewing.

  • 20090826-Shortcodes Cool

    I love WordPress.com shortcodes! While waiting for this morning mass to begin, I was holding the August 2009 copy of `Living with Christ`. And out of boredom (as usual), I flipped through the pages and pondered upon the `Table of Contents` on the inside front cover and the `Calendar` on the inside back cover.

    Then an inspiration entered my small mind! I needed to modify my `Contents` page! And I remembered the `Archives Shortcode`, which has been added to the `third section` of my `Table of Contents` page. This meant moving everything from the `Daily Rantings and Ravings` section to the `Pages from my Daily Journal` section, building upon the `new posts` section.

    The `archives shortcode` worked well for my purpose while testing it out, except I wanted to pull up one (1) recent week at a time for that month of August 2009, along with a `before` AND `after` text description for each `archive shortcode`.

    But logically, since this is a weblog, it makes sense to build upon the recent posts entries instead of `fixed` months. So I’ll live with the current page layout of my `Contents` page for now and won’t be sending `WordPress.com Support` my inspired ideas for a `Calendar shortcode` for both pages and posts, instead of just a `Calendar widget` for the sidebar(s).

  • 20090825-Horizontal Row

    Snork! Snork! I’ve been re-doing my `pages` and inserting `horizontal row` to divide sections for easier viewing. The HTML code for `horizontal row` ( < hr > ) worked well for my `Subpages` below some main pages. My older pages would have benefited from this HTML code, though, and I’d go back and re-do those too but I’m too lazy.

  • 20090817-New Stuff

    Last night, I saw the new WordPress.com home page. It now sports three tabs!

    • My Blogs (snapshots of registered blogs and links to Dashboard, Stats, Comments, Posts, Pages, Icon),
    • Freshly Pressed (stats on bloggers, new posts, comments and number words of the day) and
    • Tags (cloud-like topics sorted in alphabetical order).

    Tabs would be a nice feature in new themes for free here at WordPress.com.

  • 20090812-Added Pages

    I’ve added more sub-pages to the `Archives` pages: Yearly, Monthly, Weekly, Daily and `all`, which is not everything. Links and Pages are manually updated: Will let Support know of my wish lists.

  • 20090812-Edited Pages

    I’ve edited the `posts` page again: This time `page title` reads as `Archives`, which is duplicated under `Faq` page. Since `Front page displays` is now set to`Your latest posts`, it makes no sense to have two posts page that appears the same.

    Since boredom has been set upon me, I’ve been editing my weblog pages:

    • Welcome – Added the `default` tagline and removed a heart character.
    • Content – Cleaned up the links and made the paragraphs more logically listed. Added an image of a heart candle from `istock.com`, too.
    • Book – Changed nothing.
    • Posts – Added three more sub-pages due to setting `Front page displays` as `[My] latest posts` via `options-reading.php`.
    • About – Changed as parent page # 5.
    • Contact – Changed as parent page # 6.
    • Faq – Changed as parent page # 7.

  • 20090809-New Page

    I’ve discovered that the blog stats record the first `parent page` when:

    • A static page (select below) –
    • `Front page` [~ Select ~]  and
    • `Posts page [set to whatever].

    For example, the `Welcome` page is set as:

    • Parent  – Main Page (no parent) and
    • Order – 1.

    I tried creating a new `home` page but decided to publish and rename this one under the `welcome` page as a child page called,`Hell`. I wanted to retain my recent post entries as a both the `Front page` and a `Posts page`.

  • 20090808-Buzzing Around

    A light plane with obvious loud buzzing sounds from its engines flew around our neighborhood during that mid-afternoon, which was cooler. This was after posting my `Map` page under `Direction` via `Contact`.

  • 20090809-New Pages

    I’ve published three more pages under `Welcome`:

    • `Angels` (word definition of angel, `Sun Angel` image, and short poem);
    • `Vice` (word definition of vice, wikipedia.org reference and list of Seven deadly sins (Catholic virtues); and
    • `Virtue` (word definition of virtue, wikipedia.org reference and list of Seven virtues (Christian theology).

    Over the past few days and since the discovery of the sub-pages feature through a free theme `Unsleepable` by Ben Gray here at WordPress.com, I’ve added new sub-pages:

    I’m hoping for a drop-down menu feature, like `Sandbox` as future themes.
