  • Exchanging veggies…

    This morning Maw and I harvested vegetables from our garden — Romaine lettuce, basil and cilantro. She took a long time to wash the leaves and cut off the dried parts. Then she put those into two bags one for Minh and Indy, both of whom we called to make sure they were home. Both of us went to Minh’s house first and I placed the bag on her front porch and past the white iron grill. Then we went over to Indy’s house and I was greeted by the Indy’s daughter-in-law, who looks like Zinnia, the wife of my maternal first cousin.

    A few minutes ago, Minh came by with a bag of small tomatoes from her garden. Some are red but mostly green and small in size, too. Her husband Ben was waiting in the white car and ready to visit the daughter who was waiting for them. Maw was her usual excited self and wouldn’t stop talking up a storm.

    Today is truly a fine day of beautiful weather and friendly people. It’s good to know that the world in still blessed with abundance of sharing food, money and thoughts. Only the Satanic network and MSM pals continue to shed their “light and love” of purple cooties to ruin the serenity and calm of “God’s” kingdom.

    Addendum: I was thinking of barter system in which neighbors exchange certain goods and services for other stuff. But I see the banking system works well for the meantime. For the readers who know what I’m talking about, it’s okay either way.

  • 20110721-More Spooks

    After morning mass, we tried to buy chayote squash unsuccessfully from Safeway, which was selling the veggie at $1.99 each! We went home “disgusted” and Maw was able to make lunch: a “tinola” dish soup of chicken and fresh-cut chayote vines from yesterday and yellow banana squash from our back yard.

    Paw and I did the yard work for Friday morning’s pickup of garbage, recycling and yard trimmings. I helped prepare the table, changed into my garden clothes (which was whatever I had in the closet and drawer), donned my blue dust mask and went into the backyard to use the electric blower.

    From around 9:00am to 10:15, I’ve completed hauling eucalyptus debris from the backyard and dumping those into MY side street. With the electric blower, I cleaned up underneath the fence, the sidewalk and street, too. How is that for community service and for free, eh?

    Paw otherwise took two hours until noon-time just for his procedure of setting up his lawn mower, mowing both lawns out front and back, sweeping the loose grass on the cement and cleaning up his equipment.

    What I noticed was the city’s utitlity truck of white at around 11:00pm. It made a U-turn on MY long stretch of road. It didn’t have a chance to waste my taxpayer’s money by sitting idly by across from us.

    From now on, I plan on doing early morning yard work. The father of Leoni (a former co-worker of mine) told his family not to work under the heat of the sun between the hours of ten in the morning through two in the afternoon. It’s not good for the head.

    And thank goodness, the yard work was done because the air was already hot by the time I was finished with my supporting activity as gardener.

  • 20110717-Weathery Ways

    This morning was gray overcast. Then the fog lifted to reveal crispy, clear blue skies and some fluffy, puffy clouds of white. One blocked the sunshine enough to make out backyard slightly dimmer. I took a couple of photos.

    Earlier and after breakfast, I fertilized the  cactus and a succulent plant out front and the orchids out back while Maw slept. I then cleaned out the geraniums and rearranged the plants out back. I sensed the plants approved of their new but temporary places. The calli lilies and orchids were leaning toward the sun; and so I hope they are happier now.

    Went shopping at the DeCA in Moffett Field, CA, after dropping two HEAVY plastic bags of plums and Romaine lettuce (from our garden) with Caroline for Maw’s endocrinologist.

  • 20110707-Weathery Ways

    Cooler today with crispy clear blues skies. Had air conditioner on since heat wave prior to July 4th. Sitting outdoors with parakeets while Maw is pulling over one dozen white hair from my noggin.

    Paw did gardening: watered plants yesterday with six, 5-gallon buckets of 0-10-10 liquid fertilizer. I fertilized plants out front and Maw watered her Christmas cactus two days ago.

  • Stir-fried, yellow butter squash…

    Here is an easy recipe for yellow butter squash:

    -Fry garlic (optional), onion and ginger in vegetable oil.
    -Add one-half breast of chopped chicken breast.
    -Add eight small shrimp, deveined.
    -Allow to brown and add water to keep from burning.
    -Add chopped butter squash, red bell pepper, green bell pepper and pre-cut white mushrooms.
    -Add more water to allow steam to cook vegetables.
    -Add your favorites stir-fried sauce and/or oyster sauce.
    -Continue to steam veggies ti desired tenderness.
    -Serve warm.

    Attached is my photo showing a large bowl of stir-fried veggies with optional Chinese sausages. Yellow butter squash was harvested by Paw from our backyard yesterday evening.

  • Hosing down…

    Hosing down the plants and fence is a good way to prevent fires.

    After Paw and I awoke from our nap at 6:30pm, we started yard work. I watered down the plants and shared wooden fence in the back yard. Then I dug up the marigold flowers from MY side street because of the over crowding of purple flowers; placed the root systems into Paw’s white plastic container filled with left over soil and had him help dig holes for their new location up front. One of the eight seemed dried and hopefully it will live. Two more marigolds from the front and in between the purple flowers were also transplanted. I then used the electric blower to remove eucalyptus debris and hosed down the side fence and purple flowers off MY side street. Paw and Maw got mad at me for wetting them. Friggin’ old farts!

  • Heavy rain…

    Since around 2:30pm today, the rain is heavy. Paw was filling up the 5 gallon buckets with rain water for the plants.

    When I came home around 1:40pm from the gun repair shop in Cupertino, I saw the limping black crow at the gutter. I decided to turn on the garden hose and let the gutter fill up with water.

    After eating lunch, I went to close the front door and noticed the injured crow drinking and hopping in the small pool of water. Now the gutter is filled up to the brim, thanks to the heavy rain.

  • 20110626-Divorced Nutter

    At 4:40pm, Maw had finished pulling around eight white hair from my head. We heard the nutball working in her backyard and was obviously listening to our conversation about the boy not visiting and how each person has a life with new family and friends.

    At 6:35pm, the divorced nutter reparked her car by making a U-turn in front if our house and behind a renter’s Silverado long bed truck. She keeps going behind her white Honda CRV car.

  • NEX back?

    OMG! If it’s true, the Navy Exchange might make a come back Moffett Field. That has been our primary place for buying clothes and gardening products.

    Also, I had been envisioning Moffett Field as an educational place similar to Anapolis in Maryland. There exist Carnegie Mellon and Singularity University

    Former military personnel (with or without PTSD) would get an education to get practical jobs in the private sector.

    As for that eyesore of Hanger One, create a monument our something else with that extra land space. Perhaps build private sector stores so the military kids living there can find practical jobs.

  • Bleat

    Just finished taking shower a few minutes ago. Munching on M&Ms (dark chocolate covered peanuts). Finished doing yard work of cleaning Maw’s hanging geranium flower containers, hanging from the plum and apricot trees. Removed to dead palm bulbs and consolidated soil from two other containers. Used electric blower to remove dirt, debris, branches, twigs and mostly dried eucalyptus leaves from the backyard. Watered and fertilized Maw’s orchid containers in the hopes of it blooming. Lightly watered the flowers and veggies out front.

    Scolded parakeets for crying out loud. Wasn’t sure if it was the food or water. Then brought them inside the house to their delight — they wanted out and flew around the dining room area, which is near the back sliding door.

  • Romaine lettuce and cilantro…

    Fresh cut  romaine lettuce and cilantro from the garden. Washed and draining in a wire colander. For dinner tonight.
