Tips for using electricity on SmartDays: up until 1 PM use your washer/dryer and dishwasher, and pre-cool your home. Between 1 PM and 7 PM limit use of large appliances like your air conditioner, pool pump, washer and dryer, dishwasher, and electric oven and stove. After 7 PM use appliances normally.
Three things you can do right now to save energy and keep bills low:
1. Turn off lights in rooms not in use. (I was thinking of a new building requirement that would allow motion sensors in EACH room.)
2. Run full washer and dryer loads and clean the lint from the dryer after every load. (We used to fully load our washer. But since we got those side-loading version, we wanted our clothes cleaner. There are WIDER capacity, TOP-LOADING washers with out those center brushes that keep breaking down for cleaner clothes).
3. Take a short shower to reduce water heating cost. (I don’t believe in staying in a situation where I’m too vulnerable while NAKED!!!. Okay?!??! I’m out of that shower within five minutes! Ahh! No! Scary movies!)
