  • Share this blog

    After lurking on my favorite spiritual resource for Catholics online, I came across this nifty button. It’s called `AddThis`. It’s the #1 Bookmarking & Sharing Service.

    You can get a button. But if you want sharing statistics, you’d have to register, which I did but my username was from long time ago. So I sent myself an email for both the forgotten username and password and logged myself back into the site.

    You could see the `button` on the sidebar widget titled `Share this blog`. It’s neat!

  • New Link

    I’m trying to build my Blogroll widget of web links on the right sidebar. I have included a new link for `traditional & con-temporary` sounds. The youngest member of four sure could use a loving boost. He totally looks like and sounds like my friend overseas! I love his buttery voice. They need your help, too. Meh! It has something to do with reoccurring number of 144,000.

  • Dash Bored

    Since last night, I got bored again and decided to add more widgets to my sidebar. So I mimicked the order of appearance based on the Dashboard of the `https: //[user name here].wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php`:

    • Blog stats (same widget name);
    • Blog surfer (Custom Menu widget called `Orgone pages`);
    • My Comments (Recent Comments widget);
    • Readomattic (RSS widget for `Entries from any RSS or Atom feed`);
    • Tag Surfer (Category Cloud and Tag Cloud);
    • My Blogs (Custom Menu widget called `My blogs`);
    • Subscriptions (Blog Subscriptions widget); and
    • Akismet Stats (Akismet widget).

    This is how I build my weblog – by borrowing ideas from others and turning these goodies into my own creative work. Hopefully it’s not plagiarism or copyrighted material. It’s just these works of art are REFLECTIONS of ourselves – each other and self, too.

  • 20091118-Tweaking Widgets

    I’m trying to find a logical and visually pleasing set of widgets to place into my sidebar. So far this is what I have:

    • Image widget: About weblog. I found a nice illustration of a golden sun from iStockphoto.com. By clicking on the image, the link directs the readers to my `FAQ` page.
    • Pages widget: Main menu. Since noone has time to navigate through my `Pages`, I’ve narrowed down the selections to four links: Contents, Pages (sitemap), Archives and Posts (latest). It is closely modeled after the `WordPress Mobile Edition Theme by Alex King`.
    • Search widget. `There are no options for this widget.`
    • Image widget: Welcome back! By clicking on the image, the link directs the readers to my `Welcome` page.
    • RSS Links: Subscribe now! It is set to display both feeds for posts and comments with a small, orange RSS icon image.
    • Image widgets: Dorkboy, Orgone, Readings, and Donation.
    • Akismet, Stats and Text of various links.
  • 20091112-Old Theme

    Well, I’m using the `Connections` theme with 11 widgets for free here at WordPress.com. There are no changes made to the theme’s CSS stylesheet.

    Why? As mentioned in my previous blog entry, my weblog looked messed up via the Internet Explorer and probably from constantly tweaking my paid `Custom CSS` upgrade.

    And because one referrer is from an educational website for children, I MUST keep the contents of my weblog clean. That means more humor and less rant! Damn!

    In addition, this theme is a good way to show off my interest in orgone. With a classic, two column theme of cream and green colors, there are three widgets of orgone-related images. I’ve already received three views for two of these three images this day.

    Here is the current order to the widgets:

    • Image: Welcome back!
    • RSS Links: Subscribe now!
    • Search: Search weblog
    • Pages: Main menu
    • Image: Dorkboy
    • Image: Orgone
    • Image: Readings
    • Image: Want to help?
    • Akismet: Spam blocked
    • Blog Stats: Blog stats
    • Text: Various links

    In order to view the sidebar widgets, please click the `Home` page. Thank you.

    You may refer to my previous blog entry – `20091108-Old Theme` to find out why I like to keep this current `Connections` theme here at WordPress.com.

  • 20091112-Three Images

    On my sidebar there are three images: Dorkboy, Orgone and Readings. Guess what? The acronym for these three words (which are the headers (or title) to the widgets) spell `DOR`!

  • 20091111-Subscription Deleted

    Okay, fine! I figured out how to CONTROL (or administrate, rather) the subscription.

    I noticed on the bottom of the emails there is the gray-colored WordPress.com logo of the letter `W` inside a circle. And to the right of this logo appears two sentences:

    WordPress.com | Thanks for flying with WordPress!

    Manage your subscriptions | Signup with WordPress.com

    By clicking the `Manage your subscriptions` link, I am directed to the `http://subscribe.wordpress.com/?key=[bunch of numbers here] &email=[subscriber’s email here]&update=unsubscribed` link.

    So I clicked on the subscriber’s information and found the following valid response:

    Unsubscribed from subscriptions.

    You have no active subscriptions.

    Well, I’m finished using the `Blog Subscriptions` widget. It’s too much to worry about who is reading my IMPERFECT entries, which I why I prefer the SUMMARY version to my RSS Feeds for both `Posts` and `Comments`.

    By showing only the SUMMARY version, it forces the readers to decide whether or not to CLICK the link and read the entire post from my weblog site instead of just from the RSS Feed of their browsers or from their emails for that matter!

    Plus, I’m able to see the blog stats to the types of posts that readers are viewing. Sheesh!

  • 20091111-Widget Removed

    I don’t like the new `Blog Subscriptions ` widget! Why?

    It’s because the entire post is shown in the body of the incoming email! I thought the administrator of the WordPress.com account would have the option of CONTROLLING how the content would appear when readers subscriber to my daily blog via email, just like the RSS Feed in which each article is shown as a SUMMARY and not as FULL TEXT via the `options-reading.php` webpage.

    And because my blog entries are mostly RANTS and RAVES and since I don’t always run the `Proofread Writing` feature located under the `Visual` tab of the `post-new.php` webpage, I end up publishing once and find myself EDITING the content several times for PERFECTION!

    In other words, the original emails sent for each blog entry WILL contain errors and that’s not good, at least to me!

    As a result, I’ve removed this newest WordPress.com widget (i.e. `Blog Subscriptions`) from my sidebar. Sorry for the inconvenience, folks! My anal retentive behavior will NOT allow for further IMPERFECTION, which explains why I keep switching from one theme to the next here at WordPress.com.

  • 20091111-New Widget!

    I just discovered a new WordPress.com widget called `Blog Subscriptions`.

    Add your todays and fill out the following fields to the `Blog Subscriptions` widget for your sidebar.

    Widget title:

    Email Subscription

    Optional text to display to logged in WordPress.com users:

    Click to subscribe to this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email.

    Optional text to display to non-WordPress.com users:

    Enter your email address to subscribe to this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email.

    Subscription Button:

    Sign me up!

  • 20091029-About Site

    I’ve changed the text to my sidebar widget entitled `about site`, which is located underneath the blog title – Flynn’s Blogs:

    Old text:

    My [almost] daily blog for sharing god’S GOLD and living a SuNNY LiFe.

    New text:

    Deep Thoughts from a Simple Mind

    My Daily Blog – In My Own Words

    For the `new text`, I’ve modeled the first line from my ALIEN contact and the second line after the title a book.

    As a result, I had to redo my `front-matter` and upload the revised `web-book` into slideshare.net.

  • 20091028-Tweaking Again

    Due to sheer boredom and as I await my fate, an unknown destiny with the potential lega battle, I’ve tweaked my weblog again. Only this time it’s the sidebar widgets in the following order of appearance:

    • Text widget. The title is `About Weblog`; since the Dusk theme by beccary.com does not have a tagline near the blog title. So logically, the hard code for this text widget includes a link to my `FAQ` page.
    • Search form. `There are no options for this widget.`
    • Text widget. The title is `Mein Menu`. It was intentionally misspelled to look like `chow mein`, a popular Asian noodle dish. This widget is narrowed down to four links, which are modeled after the `Mobile Site` version of `Home`, `Pages`, `Archives`, and my additional link of `Translation`.
    • Image widget. The title is `Welcome Back`. It reminds me of an old, televised sit-com `Welcome Back Kotter` during my growing years and a billboard sign off SB101, near De La Cruz off-ramp. So logically, the hard code for this text widget includes a link to my `Welcome` page.
    • RSS Links widget to my blog’s RSS feeds. The title is `Subscribe Now`! It displays both the feeds for `Posts & Comments` with a format of both `Text & Image Links`, Image Size of `Small` and Image color of `Green`.
    • RSS widgets to `entries from any RSS or Atom feed`. It includes the RSS Feed URL for my photostream at Flickr.com.
    • Flickr widget. It includes to Flickr RSS URL for the `Orgone and Orgonite` pool and is currently set to displays two photos at a time.
    • Image widget of an orange sun. It links to my Dorkboy page.
    • Image widget of four books. It links to a hosted site by Madam Mews.
    • Image widget of donations. It links to my PayPal account.
    • Blog stats widget. It displays a count of hits to my sites, excluding my visits when I’m signed into my WordPress.com.
  • 20091028-New Stuff

    Brouhaha! I’ve learned that expression from lurking online. And through the power that which is the almighty internet, I’ve spiced up my boring weblog due to (you guessed correctly) BOREDOM.

    Yesterday afternoon, I’ve got good news. Last night, I’ve been thinking about wiggling my toes through sand and water of the beach. This morning I thought about that unpublished book and starting a publishing company, say, Fluffy and Flynn. But I think too much.

    I think that I could be a channel for advertising my favorite subjects. So my weblog now sports more Dorkboy stuff: a new page entitle Dorkboy and an `Image widget`, featuring an orange sun with 13 sunrays.

    I found a useful quote by cbswork from one of two weblog sites by Madam Mews. I placed the same image of an orange sun from the sidebar widget to the right of the quote, which could be found on the new Dorkboy page, which is divided currently into three sections: products, photos and weblogs.
