    [Flynn’s Editorial: Obama appears to be helping the cause of stupid and greedy people, like moi, who happens to have a revolving line of credit, which is, all out of honest, tied in to contractual agreements. So the signed documents allow for legal recourse. And the recent law of curbing surprise credit card fees, unfortunately, falls short for those who are already paying usurious practice of charging interest on loaned monies, which TPTB still owes moi.]

    BARACK OBAMA, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: I saw an article today indicating that Wall Street bankers had given themselves $20 billion worth of bonuses — the same amount of bonuses as they gave themselves in 2004 — at a time when most of these institutions were teetering on collapse and they are asking for taxpayers to help sustain them, and when taxpayers find themselves in the difficult position that, if they don’t provide help, that the entire system could come down on top of our heads, that is the height of irresponsibility. It is shameful. And part of what we’re going to need is for the folks on Wall Street who are asking for help to show some restraint, and show some discipline, and show some sense of responsibility.

    The American people understand that we’ve got a big hole that we’ve got to dig ourselves out of, but they don’t like the idea that people are digging a bigger hole even as they’re being asked to fill it up.

    And so, you know, we’re going to be having conversations as this process moves forward directly with these folks on Wall Street to underscore that they have to start acting in a more responsible fashion if — if we are to, together, get this economy rolling again.

    There will be time for them to make profits, and there will be time for them to get bonuses. Now is not that time. And that’s a message that I intend to send directly to them, I expect Secretary Geithner to send to them.

    And, you know, Secretary Geithner already had to pull back one institution that had gone forward with a multimillion-dollar jet plane purchase at the same time as they’re receiving TARP money.

    We shouldn’t have to do that, because they should know better. And we will continue to send that message loud and clear.

    WASHINGTON – Sens. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., and Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., have been taken from an inauguration luncheon for President Barack Obama.

    A Capitol police officer stood up at the luncheon and said medical attention was needed.

    The 76-year-old Kennedy, who had been attended Obama’s oath-taking on the Capitol’s West Front, has been battling a brain tumor.

    During a talk to members of Congress and others, Obama called attention to Kennedy, saying “I know that while I was out of the room, concerned was expressed about Teddy.”

    Obama said that Kennedy “was there when the voting rights act passed, along with John Lewis, was a warrior for justice.”

    “And so I would be lying to you if I did not say that right now a part of me is with him,” Obama added. “And I think that’s true for all of us. This is a joyous time. But it’s also a sobering time. And my prayers are with him and his family and (Kennedy’s wife) Vicki.”

  • 20081216-Use Firefox

    [Flynn’s Editorial: Meh! I’ve heard over the airwaves this morning that all versions of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browsers is totally unsafe! And all this time I’ve been not only browsing news article, participating in open forum discussion, but transacting confidential and financial information, like trying to pay down my credit card debt payment, courtesy of ‘TPTB’.

    As a result, I’ve downloaded the faster, safer and smarter Mozilla’s Firefox web browser with more than 15,000 improvements a few minutes ago. It is by far faster and I don’t know about it being safer and smarter yet. So far the text of my Flynn’s Blogs weblog site looks funny. It’s not the same! Waah!

    Anyway, Firefox will be my new web browser until the puss-heads at Microsoft fix the problems. I don’t think I could go back to the Internet Explorer. For whatever reason, the SSL version for the administration of Flynn’s Blogs continues to show this long banner at the top of the browser. After I switched to Firefox, I no longer see that security message.]

    A malignant security flaw found in all versions of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser has yet to be fixed, and the problem is spreading. Microsoft detailed the flaw in a security update blog post six days ago. Since then, the problem has spread across the globe, hitting at least 2 million computers.

    SAN FRANCISCO — A federal judge declared the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools unconstitutional Wednesday in a case brought by the same atheist whose previous battle against the words “under God” was rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court on procedural grounds.

    U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton ruled that the pledge’s reference to one nation “under God” violates school children’s right to be “free from a coercive requirement to affirm God.”

    “Undoubtedly, the pledge contains a religious phrase, and it is demeaning to persons of any faith to assert that the words `under God’ contain no religious significance,” Judge Karen Williams wrote for the 4th Circuit.

    Declassified CIA documents reveal how an informal empire operates inside the formal network of a republic.

    “The CIA will declassify… long-secret records detailing some of the intelligence agency’s worst illegal abuses — the so-called “family jewels” documenting …overseas assassination attempts, domestic spying, kidnapping and infiltration of leftist groups from the 1950s to the 1970s,” reported CIA Director Michael V.     For examples, a series of Presidents authorized the assassination of leaders of other countries, some democratically elected, sanctioned the overthrow of “disobedient” governments and engaged in massive conspiracies to direct political events in directions deemed favorable to US interests — business and government.

    Then the Cold War ended as did the excuse to continue CIA dirty activities. Scandals emerged about top security officials — like Robert Phillip Hanssen and Aldrich Ames — selling “top security secrets” to the USSR, whose leaders obviously made little use of them for Soviet survival.

    After 9/11, however, Bush replaced the war on communism with a never-ending war on terrorism and took previous criminal activities to levels few could have foreseen. Ten years ago few Americans would have conceived a President authorizing massive wiretapping, profiling of Muslim-Americans, a Patriot Act of dubious constitutionality, the destruction of Iraq, the establishment of secret torture prisons or a scandalous holding jail in Guantanamo where habeas corpus has ceased to exist.
