  • 20090910-Logically Placed

    Weblogs are meant to be read in descending order from the most recent posts (or towards the top) to the oldest (or way on the bottom).

    In order to avoid annoying your readers, set your `Front page display` as your `Latest posts`. As per a `Forum` contributor of WordPress.com, he mentioned setting the `blog pages at most` to three (3), which is what I did for my weblog.

    Consideration is better than hunting down for archives, which really serves the truly nosy readers or the administrator, who wants to copy/past (or export) their work to another server or external drive somewhere that could be easily retrieved for later viewing.

  • 20090827-Text Widgets

    For those using outdated cellphones with limited internet browsing features, I’ve discovered how to make each line item of your `Text widgets` stack nicely on top of each other and more flushed to the left of your cellphone screen when hardcoding HTML into the `Text widgets` found in sidebars:

    • Remove the < ul >;
    • Replace with < li >;
    • Check the `Automatically add paragraphs.`;
    • Press the `Save` button and
    • Minimize or close your `Text widgets`.
  • 20090826-Starting Week

    I just made a discovery! I couldn’t figure out why my new `archive shortcode` (for the last 5 weeks) didn’t pick up today’s entries! Then another thought entered my small mind!

    So I searched for the answers online and stumbled upon a `Yahoo Answers` – UK & Ireland article: What day starts the week ,Sunday or Monday?.

    Here is an answer that caught my eyes:

    European practice is to make Monday the start of the week. […] 1 being the Monday, and 7 the Sunday.

    European calendars and diaries show this same layout.

    So, in order for the `archives shortcode` to work properly and pick-up today’s weblog post entries:

    • Go to `General Settings` (or `options-general.php` admin webpage) of your Dashboard.
    • Scroll all the way down and locate `Week Starts On`
    • Select `Monday`.
    • Click on the `Save Changes` button.

    You may view the WordPress.com support article on `General Settings` for more visual information.

  • 20090821-Hardcoding Text

    After viewing my weblog site in standard HTML via an OLD cellphone with a screen size of 1.5 inches by 1.75 inches, I noticed how the texts to the `Text: widgets` to the sidebars are flushed right.

    So I went back to the `widgets.php` and hard-coded my`text widgets` as follows:

    < ul >
    < li >[entered my text here]< /li >
    < li >[continue my text here< /li >
    < /ul >

    Now the text are away from the right and appear somewhat in the middle with still some space unoccupied on the left of my outdated cellphone web browser.

  • 20090723-Funky Feed

    I’m trying to determine why the feed for my weblog posts are not synchronized: The `Displaying` post should read 15 out of 15 and the `Filter by category:` shows old ones and not the recently added `tags`.

    I found out how to view the `updated` version via Windows Internet Explorer:

    Delete Feed
