With the upcoming Digital TV Transition on Friday, June 2009, we had to prepare three of our televisions; so as to continue viewing our favorite programs like Fox.com News (on local cable channel 59).

But last Friday and over a meal, we noticed that Paw was sitting closer to view his small Sony Television (Model Number: KV-1215 – Econoquick Trinitron Color TV Receiver). It has a screen measurement of 12.5 inches. In order for him to see up close, he would sit at the edge of his bed and prop up his feet.

So we decided to switch the larger Sony from the dining room with his smaller television to his bedroom. The larger Sony worked fine. However, some stations did not have strong signal: pixelation would occur, sometimes the audio would cut out and other times a gray screen would appear after the blue screen of death read: ‘ONE MOMENT PLEASE. This station will be restored momentarily.’

Our cable service is Comcast. As far as I know, the signal needed more boosting or the position of the cable box could not pick up the transmission clearly enough. I tried re-positioning the hand-made furniture set of old wood and painted titanium white, ever which way but the reception was poor for Fox.com News channel and on either side channels 58 and 60.

So Paw called Comcase on Monday and talked with the call center and was told to exchange a perfectly good cable box for something similar in dimension, thank goodness because the furniture housing the unit has been cut by a kid from The Home Depot (Milpitas, CA) and painted by the twosome.

And at 1441 we got our ticket #612 after driving to 1900 South 10th St. (downtown San Jose, CA) and waited for about twenty minutes before ‘Maria’ from service station number eight helps us obtain, not only a new cable box but two adaptors for installation to two other televisions, both located on the first floor.

Honestly, it’s better to have NO television inside the bedroom, which is meant for rest and relaxation. Plus, there is less radiation and heat. Besides, we didn’t want another cable running upstairs and into a hole puncturing the stucco, a cement-like substance that strong like stone.

I installed the new cable box but we continued to get poor reception. So Paw called Comcast again yesterday, Tuesday, and ended up agreeing to some sort of monthly fee of $0.99 for any service instead of almost $20.00 per visit by the technician.

We got Erik, a tall black guy with a gotee. He came over and fixed the problem with the cable box and installed the two adaptors. At 1050, two televisions were almost activated. But he had to install a cable filter in the cable box located outdoors in the backyard.

Of course, I had to whip out my leaf blower to get the spider nest and a black widow spider, which was blown to shreds and rested in half pieces, including the nest egg, astrewn upon the gray-whiteness of the cement. Maw helped used her ting-ting broom to whip out the remaining, sticky spider web.

Now with our new viewing pleasures, the old remote controls will not work. The new ones are VERY simple: channel, volume, 10-key pad, on/off button and two other useless buttons – Info and Lang.
