I loved the guy. He seemed happy to be in my presence. One day someone brought in her white baby, a cute one. I turned my head to the rightk and saw how he smiled and shook its hand. I returned to the damn green-colored computer screen at work and wondered if he would have made a good father.
When we walked together arm in arm in downtown “Two Cats” the last city off southbound HWY 880, he pointed out a place where people celebrated their wedding reception. I wondered if he was thinking about marriage.
I was six years younger than him. Everyday I think of him. His nickname wouldn’t leave my mouth. But that was my first job and I was earning minimum wage. He seemed aloof and unwilling to meet my parents or to pick me up at my place.
Well, one night, I heard him mumble under his breath: “Why did I get her pregnant?” Right there, I sense he might have had issues with alimony or something like that. I figured that I’m better off not calling him and decided to fade away.
