  • 20080225-Creating Book

At around 04:00PM, I’ve modified the pages of ‘my book’ via WordPress.com. Once again, I remembered the faq.wordpress.com weblink and cross-trained myself on ‘how to write a book’. Last year, I managed to ‘create a page’ for ‘front’ and ‘index’ and still didn’t know what to do with the organization of my pages.

Today, I discovered ‘chapters’ and the third essential page to a book. For the longest time, I couldn’t differentiate the concept of ‘contents’ from ‘chapters’. After using my big brain, I created my newest page: ‘Chapters’. And this eliminated the confusion of dividing ‘the meaty part’ of my weblog from the ‘table of contents’.

Then I discovered the function of the < blockquote > tag. In my mind right after lunch and exercise today, I thought to myself that I should use the < blockquote > tag for the purpose of setting the external source for the definition located on the top of each of my pages apart from the rest of the text. This allows for proper ‘credit’ for this type of information.

The ‘Digg 3’ theme makes this particular tag stand out with a yellow colored box with a double ‘quotation mark’ on the upper left hand side of the box. I had to remove some old < blockquote > tag from the pages and set those sentences as ‘center’. But I still have a hard time figuring out how to get these more indented without using the < blockquote > tag feature.

Overall, I am learning how to navigate through the WordPress.com website and utilize the features available. I did notice three more floating icon within the ‘Code’ tab while overhauling the layout of the ‘Pages’. I don’t know what these three do but will find out later on when I have the time. Other than that, it’s back to ‘Posts’ until I come up with other ideas to make my weblog site ‘prettier’ (to me at least).

  • 20080225-Perfecting Pages

Hurrah! I’ve successfully made my ‘View Pages’ more organized. After nine months of wondering how I could make sure that the titles to each page don’t wrap around to the next line as it appears on the widget of the left sidebar, I learned much from WordPress.com. I love WordPress.com!

It’s my ‘perfect’ mentality to get the layout logically sorted. But I couldn’t figure out how to handle this area. Once again, I sought the aid of the faq.wordpress.com weblink and found my answer under the ‘Sort Pages’ article. I quickly glanced at the article without fully understanding what to do next. It’s my impatience that gets in the way, really.

So I sat there staring at my weblog site while my big brain fried overtime and thought to myself about using the ‘Page Order’. I tested the ‘Front Page’, ‘Front Flyleaf’ and ‘Title Page’ and at the same time removed the numbering system I’ve entered in front of each title for the same purpose that he ‘Page Order’ could have easily done for me.

This is what I wanted for my pages! And I went to work right after 09:00PM until around midnight when I did the tests on the links for each page. I didn’t want to over ride the ‘Post Slug’ from the default page number assignment to my unique combination of words because that will mean the ‘permanent links’ will change. But I had to do this in order to force one link within a page to function properly.

Addendum-02/25/2008 04:26PM: I forgot to mention that one would set the ‘Page Order’ to start with number ‘1’ to avoid confusion. This could be at each level or ‘Page Parent’ and so far I have a total of ‘four’ level. Prior to my discovery of ‘Page Order’ I was up to a few dozen. Now I’m down to at most four pages to each ‘Page Parent’. WordPress.com is truly a great free hosting service.
