My delayed blog is in regards to the case about this black man, Troy Davis, who is on death row in Savannah, Georgia as per CNN news. I wanted to observe how the judicial system operates in light of the new evidences that present themselves recently. The recant of six of the nine key witnesses seems to be significant and by slightly over two-thirds!
Justice for this man and for any person who may be innocent of any crime from a case of mistaken identity may be served either way: execution (where one family will mourn the passing of a second life) or life (where the other family will continue to grieve for a justice already served).
In the former example, I would not be too quick to judge in taking one life for another life. As an off beat example from my previous blogs, surviving with food requires us to harvest plants or slaughter animals. With water and shelter being the other two basic necessities for life, the execution of another life to give renewed expectation of justice over the loss of another life does not make sense.
With the latter example, life would mean this man’s prayers to ‘God’ have been answered. This does not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that his black man convicted of killing a police officer. This is his personal test to come clean for any guilt or past karma that he needs to confess and reconcile. His example may be a hard lesson many other cases that have been laid to rest without a fair trial.
I read an article that mentioned that he did indeed have many fair trials. I did not like reading about the lawyers becoming judges and then not having enough time or money to pursue further investigations. I suppose this black man was not too convincing then or now. I am, however, convinced, in light of the evidence and the overwhelming support for family and friends, this man may be innocent.
His trial may be another precedent for others to follow and cops (whose jobs are already stressful and high strung) should not abuse and kill other innocent folks. I have read elsewhere, for example, a teenager was strangled to death by a cop and all for skateboarding as a fun hobby. If this hybrid of a fascist state were viable in my realm, the fun would be taken out and the control factor by the jackboots would be, well, neck breaking.
Besides neck breaking (or back breaking which ever the case may be), the heart break of the father to know of his child being dead by and at the hands of a red-faced cop should deserve justice in return – death. I did not like that response and this only reflects back what each of us is capable of doing to each other. Eventually if all were chaotic enough to take justice into our own hands, there won’t be anyone left as if each person is justified in taking each other’s life for another.
Perhaps, long term torture like that ‘Guantanamo Bay’ place is another option in place of immediate death. This would means the roles of the victims are still alive to pray for death in place of life with continued pain. If our current ‘correctional’ system becomes, say, overcrowded, there would be less conviction and inmates subject to real corporeal punishment. There would be less lawyers and court fees to deal with in the long run, too.
Either way it is all the same. Morally, people should not go around killing each other. Moreover, there should be a safer way instead of guns to apprehend criminals and deter people from hurting each other. The stun gun does not work well and once again the cops have too much of an itchy finger to know when to let go of the trigger as I have read or heard on the news somewhere. People have died under the stun gun, by the way. Sheesh!
So whatever the courts decide and in light of these evidences I am sure justice will be served here and now or in the afterlife for those who believe in reincarnation. No one knows for sure if ‘God’ has plans for this black man to live in his current form for now. I am sure taking lots of my time with this blog and trying to make sense of why some people don’t live up to loving one another once and for all regardless of any differences.
Note: He got a last minute reprieve a day prior to his execution on Tuesday. This is stay of execution is good for up to 90 days.
